odometer not working!

Hey guys !
I recently bought a used 2008 g37s, before I bought it the dealer told me the odometer is not working but I bought it anyways.
I took it to Infiniti dealership and they quoted me 600 dollars for a cluster change.
Isn't there any other way to solve the issue without paying that much ?

There is:
2008 2009 Infiniti G37 Coupe Sedan 3 7L Instrument Cluster 24820 1NC1A | eBay

I don't know what alarm or immobilizer device you guys have over in the US. On my car it was a direct swap (but then again, my ECU is not OEM)

^^This! I would have at least negotiated to make the dealership you got it from replace it...You might have to bite the bullet on this one.

I think it may be borderline illegal to sell a car with a broken odometer. You can bet that when the dealer purchased that car used that they paid a discounted price.

Some quick Google results: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...3054503AAWmzEu

You bring up a good point socketz67. How do you even know how many miles were on the actual car? could have been broken for 40k miles for all you know

I guarantee this will affect your resale.

I believe some states require some form of Odometer disclosure as well: Odometer Disclosure Statement - Guide to Title Transfers and Odometer Reading Forms at DMV.org: The DMV Made Simple

Thanks for the replies guys!
Basically I am a resident in UAE and I got the car for 3000 dollar cheaper because of the odometer issue.
Could the odometer problem be due to other issues rather than a faulty cluster?

Good thing you got a discount. it would really stink to pay full price for a 5 year old car with 198,000 miles on it.
