Is exhaust soot normal for g37s ?
Is exhaust soot normal for g37s ?
Looking to purchase a used 7at g37s. Less than 50000miles. I do find quite some soot in the pipe. But the car idles fine, revs fine. The owner says he drives pretty fast and race bmw on highway, so maybe that could be the reason? Any potential issue there? Also the undercarriage shows some rust, the driver seat is bit worn out. Overall the condition is fine. What do u think?
So you want to buy a car when the guy tells you he abuses it and the car shows sign of rust? But I do see exhaust soot all the time. I think its pretty normal.

You forgot a few very important parts
What year is the car. Where are you.. if its somewhere that rust is normal (michigan)its a 09 and its not excessive then i probably wouldnt worry because allmost all cars have some rust up there because of the salt. The fact that he says he races it whats the engine look like. (are the bolts rounded on things like intake, headers etc etc because it could have been 50k turbo hard miles. Look for signs of part swaping. Another aspect.. how much. If its 5 grand. take your chance... if its normal pricing for that year go somewhere else. If you are not mechanically inclines then take it to infiniti and offer to pay for the inspection as long as it comes out clean clean. (if he starts making excesses here then theres something wrong.) Be smart... your not buying a 91 civic here... more than likely your paying closer to 30k.
Thanks keraxis,I checked the engine bay which looks clean with no mods on or oil leaks. It's a 2009 east coast car with nav and premiums package selling little over 20k. The owner does say he occacially race in the city block with bmw cuz ppl wanna race g37 all the time. Lol clean carfax with all dealer documents and so on. He is cool with Infiniti dealer inspection too. Looks like I'm going get myself a new toy soon.
