What do you think about Extended Car Warranty
I just purchased my 2008 G37s from a used dealership and I'm thinking about purchasing the Extended Car Warranty. I'm not familiar with known issues on 2008 G37s, and that's were your expertise is needed. So my questions are:
1. What are the common issues that the 2008 G37s have?
2. Have you purchased a car and regretted not buying a Extended Car Warranty?
My credit union is offering the warranty with Mercury for $900 and it's the top of the line coverage. But I noticed it doesn't cover the exhaust. I had a warranty on my Pathfinder and needed to use it to cover new Cats, only to find out they didn't cover them. Any info will help!

Well I think the warranty for the exhaust like cat converter is 8/80 I replaced mine like 2 weeks ago and it had 60k miles so depending on your miles you still have that hehe
I had aftermarket warranty with Mercury on my previous BMW and had the top of the line platinum coverage or something like that (basically covered everything except for the navigation and radio parts). The original cost was about $3,000 if I remember correctly.
In the end, they probably paid for close to $10K worth of repairs wihtout any hassle. If I didn't have it, I would have been screwed considering the repairs cost about half of the car's worth.
On a side note, I just had my head gasket replaced on my 2008 and it was covered by Infiniti.

Waste of money IMO and . . .

It was a BMW right!

True that! As much as I love how they drive, the upkeep/repairs are totally not worth it which makes it tough because they get pretty affordable as they depreciate as fast as rocks sink (but for a reason).

Look at it this way - Mercury is betting you that they will not have to pay out $900. The house always wins! Better you should put the $900 away and save it toward any repairs you will need. More importantly, get a good mechanic to go through the car before you buy it from the dealer and let you know of any issues he find.

In two years of ownership of my 2008 G37S I've found the maintenance to be slightly higher than average but have had no mechanical or electrical problems with the car. There are the known issues with the muffler rattling, interior paint chipping, mysterious battery drain, brake judder, and at least one firmware upgrade on the 5AT but those should have been taken care of by the previous owner during the warranty period. Be consistent with the maintenance and oil changes and you should be fine.
