Question on ticking noise

I have a 09 g37 coupe, I know cars usually make a ticking sound when you turn off the car because its cooling down, but while my car is running it makes a ticking sound under the car ,driver side in the middle . Any suggestions on what it might be from ?? Thanks for reading

I would say its the same thing. When the car is off, the ticking is the metal contracting as it cools. With the car on, its probably metal expanding and contracting. I would say its normal for the G. My IS does not do this but my G did it from the day I picked her up at the dealership.

Its the exhaust metal shielding. Most likely coming from the y-pipe. I changed mine out for the tanabe exhaust, and the ticking went away all together.

All that heat shilding around the Y pipe is nutz... but yeah heat up or cool you can hear the metal click... but changed out the Exhaust its gone...

Funny thing though that sitting at a stop you'd feel the heat coming from the exhaust .. but after changing it all out the heat is a lot lessor!

I also have an 09 G37X coupe, same ticking noise while driving. It doesn't really bother me too much. Glad to see it sounds like it's normal with this car.

All Japanese cars tick, that's the sound of warranty fading away.
Just had this conversation a week or 2 ago.
We had his mazdaspeed 3 an evo & a g coupe.
Sounded like we were surrounded by laser ink jet printers.
We laughed, sounded like typewriters gone wild. Wtf?

I think they do it to annoy people, on purpose.
