2008 Coupe - Quirks or Problems?
I've been driving my new to me 2008 G37S Coupe 6MT for the past few weeks and absolutely love it. However, I did notice a few quirks/strange things and I'm not sure if that's the way the car is or if it is a potential problem:
- Passenger side window - doesn't roll down all the way. There is maybe a 1/4" sliver of the window that doesn't retract down into the door panel.
- Adaptive headlights - when I turn the wheel left or right, I only see the passenger side lamp turning. Is this right or should the driver side be moving as well?
- Transmission - I had posted a thread about this previously and have since become more familiar with the quirks of this. When I am at a complete stop and take off in 1st, I can get it to go somewhat smoothly when my RPMs are below 1K or above around the 1.6K RPM mark. However, around the 1.1K to 1.3K mark, my car will shudder and stutter like the clutch is slipping. Does anyone have/notice this? If I balance the clutch and throttle to keep the RPMs in this range but without the clutch fully engaged, I can keep the stuttering going. Rowing through the rest of the gears is buttery smooth.
- When sitting at a stop at idle, I notice some engine or transmission noises that disappear when I press in the clutch. I did a search on this and saw some talk about it in the 370z forums. Is this something to worry about?
#3 mine does a little shudder also, I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Most manual cars I have driven do a little shudder at that point
#4 I notice the same exact thing. Don't know if it should be worried about but if both of us hear it then I don't think it should be an issue.

I don't know if these will help, but I'll throw them our there anyways...
1- roll the window all the way down, then roll it up while holding the button (don't use the auto up). After the window is all the way up, continue holding it up for about 10 seconds. This does some sort of reset... Idk if it will help.
2- i don't have adaptive headlights, so idk.
3- i just recently got an aftermarket clutch and flywheel put it (yesterday lol). The car drives fine, but i think due to a lighter weight flywheel, the car shutters more because it doesn't have the mass of the heavier stock flywheel when engaging. There may be a chance a lightweight fw is in your car.
4- this could be chatter. I've read up a lot about aftermarket fw and clutches, and again, with the lightweight fw, you get chatter (some say it sounds like a cement mixer). I have heard this a little bit after the new parts were put in, but i also didn't get an incredibly lightweight fw (went with the south bend fw and stage 1 kit). But if you do have a lighter fw in the car, the chatter would be worse. Also, the chatter isn't anything functionally wrong, its just normal noises not masked by the dual mass OEM fw.
Hope it helps... And hopefully i don't sound like an idiot lol

I'll tackle your #2.
The left headlight does not move until you reach a speed a speed of 16 or 18 mph, I don't remember which one.
I personally don't see the point of having such rule, some say Infiniti designed it that way to avoid blinding opposite-driving traffic. If your headlights are properly aimed, you're not blinding anyone anyway. So if you are in a pretty dark area and are turning left slowly, your AFS feature will not help at all. SMH.

#3 - ive started to notice this on my 08 too. i read a thread on this board that pretty much says thats its normal.
#4 - this has ALWAYS happened on my car. i notice it a lot when im rolling through drive-thrus. creeping up and then stopping/releasing the clutch, is when i hear it the most. i took my car in to the dealer last year complaining about that sound. and they said it was normal but i ended up getting a new transmission out of all that. in which i thought the transmission was acting normal HAHAH! no complaints about getting a new tranny.

Thanks for the help and responses everyone! I don't think my car has ever had the clutch/FW replaced so I'm pretty sure I'm on the OEM FW.
I did a bit more research and the clutch chatter when the clutch pedal isn't depressed is pretty common as I found a lot more threads and posts on the issue with the 370z crowd.
The adaptive headlight thing is interesting, I notice it everytime I'm leaving work as I have to go up and around about 3 levels in my parking garage. I go about 10-20 mph through the garage and haven't seen the left headlight move yet. But when on the streets, I thought I saw it moving but wasn't sure.
