Special case rattling (I think)
Special case rattling (I think)
Hello. I just bought a used 2008 G37S coupe and I'd like to first say that I've done my 45 minutes of searching before I post this because of the number of times I've seen people get burned alive for not searching. My searching technique might not be as advanced as most of you so if I did miss an old thread about this, please shame me in the most understanding and respectful way possible.
I've read numerous times of people having issues with the muffler/pipes rattling with their g37 and I've also seen a few videos on youtube. I wasn't able to find any videos or description of the rattling that I get.
I noticed that my car makes weird pebble-in-a-can noise every 2-3 seconds when I come home to park my car and after I've turned off my engine. It doesn't make that noise when I first start the car. I know the dealership has been putting in regular gas and I'm assuming that the previous owner did as well. Perhaps the cheap gas they've been feeding the car has had a negative impact over the 50-60k kms and it rattles? I don't know much about cars. Has anyone seen this before?
I used to drive a Jaguar and every time I took it to the dealership, I end up starving hundreds of Africans so I'm afraid to take it to an Infiniti dealership to even get it looked at.
Oh and another quick question. Do doors not lock itself after you start driving?

If you are still under warranty, let the dealership look at the exhaust. Mine was replaced that same day I brought it in.
Definitely get back to Premium unleaded. I hope no permanent damage was done by the ignorance of whoever owned the vehicle before you or the dealership.
As far as the auto-lock feature, the 08's don't have it. Also, when you turn your headlights on, nothing lights up on the instrument cluster to indicate you have them on. I asked the dealership about that and they ended up replacing the whole thing, only to find out that Infiniti did in fact have put the indicator on the cluster, but did not "enable" that function...

Unfortunately it's not under warranty. I'm legally under a one month warranty from the lamborghini dealership I bought it from and I still have the engine warranty from Infiniti but I was told muffler was not part of the engine warranty. Do you think they'd charge me if I took it into Infiniti to get the noise checked out?
Whether the comment was racist or not, I do not know, I just blew past it. Just wanted to help out a fellow G owner, but if they are in fact racist, I suggest you to keep those type of comments to yourself, they don't help anyone.
Going back to your problem, any TSB related to your vehicle will be free of charge if you are under warranty. If your warranty is gone, then you will have to pay out of pocket for the axle-back portion of the exhaust, which is what Infiniti replaces for this particular problem.
Give your dealer a call and they will tell you right away if they will charge a fee to have your car checked.

Also using regular gas has no detrimental effect on these cars, the ECU senses any preignition, and retards the timing.
