I have about 52,000 km on my Canadian 09 Coupe. Warranty runs out at 60,000km I believe.

Just wondering about buying an extended warranty.... Admittedly haven't looked into it with Infiniti - and don't know if an extension CAN still be bought??

Thought I'd ask here - and see what others might have encountered.

You can buy an extended from Infiniti up until the moment your factory one runs out. I didn't and wish I did (haven't needed it though).

 

Weird - I'd done a search on my topic before I started a new thread - and came up with nothing of relevance. I just did a Google search on same thread topic and got a thread bouncing back to Myg37.com ....... sorry if this is a re-posted topic.

And thanks for the info on buying it right up to the expiration point. I'll call an INfiniti dealer here and see what info I can get.

 

our cars are pretty easy to work on and parts or not expensive,

i canceled my aftermarket waranty after the stealership added it with out telling us,

long as you take care of the car it will take car of you =>

 

The extended maintenance is an insurance program. Infiniti is betting on nothing or minimally going wrong with your car and you are getting the policy in case something does go wrong with the car.<O</O

It depends on how long you are planning on keeping the ride and how much you are willing to shell out of your pocket. It is also a little bit roll of the dice.<O</O

Two cars back (which I still own), nothing mechanically went wrong with the car until the clutch went out at 185,000 miles, which was not out of line. Since then, I have had some sensors fail, nothing major until the ECU crapped out at 340K. I am sitting on 382K with the original turbos and burning some oil. I would not have gotten the benefit of an extended warranty for this ride.<O</O

My next car, which I sold for the G, I debated on getting the extended warranty or not. I did not. Big, no make that, huge mistake. <O</O

Not long after the three year warranty expired, the transmission literary exploded. Practically all of the gears shattered (no I did not beat the car). Then the traction control module failed three times, which shut the car down to idle. Luckily, all times I was on a residential street. Two failures on the tire pressure monitor system and two on the vehicle immobilizer system. The right channel on the stereo quit, two power window motors failed, the remote key fob system failed, one of the pistons for the rear hatch broke, the brake anti lock computer went kaput, the LCD HVAC screen went dead, as did my AC compressor.<O</O

My wife bought a used car which came off of a two year lease, which had a transferrable 7 year extended warranty. It came in handy for her.<O</O

I did not hesitate getting the extended policy with my G. Yes, Infiniti has a decent reputation, but take a look of all of the electronics in the car. Wrenching costs are 100 bucks per hour, and in a few years, that will jump to $120, and you also have to pay for parts. I will be getting a new nav screen. If that was out of warranty, this would have added up to quite a few dollars. <O</O

A couple months after getting my car, I took a nail in the tire, right where the side wall meets the tread. Unrepairable. The extended warranty covered that, where the standard warranty did not - $350. <O</O

I have already had a litany of problems with my G, all covered under the standard warranty. If I am having problems now, there are no guarantees that things will get better when the standard warranty expires.<O</O

As in this thread and others under this site, getting the warranty or not is a preference. It can come down to pay me now or pay me later. Personally, I got it for my own piece of mind. If a covered part fails, no out of pocket expense for me, plus I get a loaner. In addition, if I sell the car before the extended warranty expires, I have a clean low mileage loaded well maintained G37xS coupe with an extended warranty, may help for a better and quicker sale. <O</O

 

Coolbreeze, infiniti elite care covered tire damage?? I was not aware of this. It's listed in their brochure as a consumable. Was it covered perhaps within the first year/12K miles of ownership?

 

When I recently got my M, I got the extended warranty. They offer a seperate policy that covers tires and rims, it's not part of the normal extended warranty.

 

My apologizes. Jsolo & 2008G-Man are correct, tire road hazard is not part of the extended warranty.<O</O

i asked how much the 1 year was and they said it was 1800ish. thats for 1 year. pending motor needing to be rebuilt that 1800 will fix what breaks. and sides most things void the warranty and youll just get screwed twice.

 

^I got my warranty extended to 8 years 100k miles for $1800 when I bought it. Given I only drive ~8k miles a year it made sense to me to get the extra 4 years for "piece of mind". These days a broken water pump, a/c unit, nav system, w/e else will run at least $1k to fix at the dealer.

Hope is I'll never use it because I'd rather have it working than "getting my money's worth" in the shop.

 

There is no "1 year" warranty. The lowest elite warranty is 2 years/24,000 miles.

 

I purchased the extended warranty for 7 years 120,000 on my 2011 G37 for $2600 thinking something will break. Even if its not $2600 worth of issues I will atleast have peace of mind. AC went at 38,000... Not Covered by the warranty!!

 

^^At 38K, you should still be under factory warranty (through 50K IIRC). Also, what specifically failed in the AC system. Looking at the extended warranty coverage, it seems like practically every part of the AC system is described.

Would it be better and cheaper to buy an aftermarket warranty from a different company than Infiniti?

 

I would call 3 different infiniti for quotes and ask each of them to beat the other guy. That's what i did. THen i called the 1st one again to beat the last guy. It's best to start with the dealer you bought the car from and end there. So far i am 9 months into my extended warranty and i had my shifter go out. That was $800 saved and i am hoping something else would go out too so i can have new parts on the car. lol
