Hood support strut replacement
Actually, we're talking $230 w/tax. Please read more carefully. You need two struts.
Porsche hood struts are less than half the price of Infiniti hood struts. I guess I'm amazed there is an Infiniti part which costs more than a Porsche part.
I'm still not clear on what you're saying. Are you saying grossly overpaying for a relatively small part is okay because it's not a huge amount of money? Would you pay $50 for an oil filter? Would you pay $75 for a windshield wiper? Are you saying a ripoff is not really a ripoff if it involves less than $250?

I've also been told that you should use the struts as often as possible to keep them in better shape. By that I mean open your hood or trunk often and leave them open for awhile to help relieve some pressure on the seals and help lubricate them from movement. This advice was given to me from a shop in Canada that rebuilds these struts and highly recommends changing the position they are in more often than most people do. Basically a "use it or lose it" philosophy.

I learned this the hard way yesterday as I was looking for the brake fluid compartment immediately after opening my hood and it fell on my head. Still hurts like hell.

Is this something you could DIY fairly easily? I've read on other forums about other Infiniti owners (i.e. M, Q) who went to Napa and got similar struts with no issues.

FWIW, I finally replaced mine and went with some aftermarket ones that looked decent. They are stronger than the OEM ones. I got them from Amazon for $52 shipped. Strongarm 6471 is the part number. I just got them a few weeks ago so I can't comment on how long they'll last yet. Ask me in a year. But they have a bigger rod (that's what she said!) than the OEM ones and open the hood with more force.
BTW, disregard the 1 star review, it's a moron who gave the product a bad review because he can't read and bought 2 pairs by his own mistake. The price is for a pair, not a single strut. It clearly states so in the product description.

i got replacement struts on ebay for about $50. They have lifetime warranty and works just fine if not stronger than stock.

Not sure BB.....They are durable though, and carry a lifetime warranty, so for the price, you can't go wrong. I have purchased struts from them for my Pathfinder rear hatch & window as well, no issues at all
I'm not doubting their quality, I take your word for it form your experience with them. Just curious as to who actually builds them and they brand they're sold under. As you well know, a manufacturer might sell the exact same product or very similar variations to a number of different companies sold as different brands that are the exact same thing. Just wondering which ones they actually are and if they afre the exact same thing as various different recognized brands sold in auto parts stores.
