^ true statement.

And to back that up, on a wet road, with all-season tires almost gone in tread(hard compound tire), I was able to spin all the way to 70, with the VDC on, cold tires, in a 5AT in M mode.

It really doesn't matter what the tires are, if the conditions of the road are right, and the tires are cold, you can definitely do it.

And I also think if a brand is portraied as a overall brand, of couse it will have a few flaws in certian areas, but michelin produces the same time, and all-season ones are amazing. Of course putting on a summer tire will grip the car to the ground because they are most likely a SOFT compound tire. A hard compound tire, will also slip a hell of a lot easier, and the G-Max appear to be hard compound as most all-season tires are.

I didn't know that. Why is that? I thought they kept the same VQ in the G from 08 on?

I really need to get some summer tires. I can't afford them at the moment after buying the G, so I'm content.

You'll be very pleased with the upgrade. I would suggest the Pilot Super Sports. They're expensive, but I couldn't be happier with mine.

Mr. Toe, What size are you running the PSS in?

Years back, I purchased a set of goodyear eagle f1 gs d3 tires based on much forum and tirerack feedback. The feedback most likely applied to a size other than stock, because in stock sizes, the tires were crap. Sidewalls way too soft, feedback extremely vague, and just overall unsatisfying driving experience with them. Stock sizes on the z28 was 245/50/16, many people were running 275/something/17. In the lower profile, 17" setup, the tire might of been god's gift.

I am running 275/35/19 in the back, and 245/40/19 in the front. My next set may actually be a little wider. Bear in mind, I don't typically push them to their limits. I'm not as, umm, young as I once was, if you follow.

I've herd a lot of mixed reviews about the gs d3's.

I have the 275/245 PSS, the rears are perfect, I wouldnt get wider, the fronts probable could go to 255. But the diameter wont match.

That's some seriously wide steam rollers in the back (and front) I'd wonder how well that tire would perform in stock size?

Generals are not bad tires. I'm sure it'd be great on your mom's Lincoln or Lexus. But anything that is meant to last 75k miles has no part on a high performance car with a manual transmission.
He said they were General G-MAX tires, unless there are varieties of G-MAX's, they are 40K tires, not 75K. Well rated Ultra High Performance tires... been thinking about getting a set as well.

Testing Value-Priced Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires

To the original poster - are you sure your clutch isn't slipping? I doubt you would be breaking the tires loose in 3rd gear at 55.

I bought my '08 G37S in March and I upgraded from a 2000 Honda Civic Si. When I finally decided to have a little fun with my G on a late night (with pretty damp roads) I launched and was spinnin all the way into 3rd. I stopped the car, took a deep breath, laughed at myself and said Holy Sh*t. Lol performance car or not it's got plenty of power for me!

I've also gotten wheel spin when launching rather tamely, and when shifting poorly into 2nd (rpms were too high). VSC is on.

On another note... wow... I had not driven this car into high rpms yet... holy ****.
Your tires suck. Get better tires (although the majority of this board just wants cheap tires, rather than sticky)

Maybe your clutch was slipping and you mistaken it for wheel spin
