Hey guys,

I currently have an 08 G37S 6MT and live in a cold weather state. Mucho snow.

I am considering the '11 G37xS 7AT. I know they are practically the same accept for weight and brake size (I think they are different because of the AWD system.)

Is it worth it to switch? I know AWD has nothing to do with better braking in snow. It really is all about the tires.

However, I have driven my G37S 6MT in the snow. Scary fishtailing.

I haven't driven the AWD version, so I need your opinion.

its not worth it. you will end up losing too much money on the trade.

 

If you don't want to get hosed so bad, you can sell your 08 6MT and get an 09 xS.

 

I thought there was no x"S" until 2011 (i.e., the sport package wasn't available on the coupe X until 2011). No?

 

I wasn't thinking about the coupe I guess. My fiance's mom has an 09xS sedan.

I guess the 2011 xS isn't a "fake" sport like the 09 is, since it has the akebono brakes and what not.

But still, getting hosed like that to move over would suck. I'd sooner buy a 4-5k 4WD beater instead of taking such a huge loss.

 

my x is fantastic in the snow and we got a ton of it last winder. its so much better than my fwd accord and the accord has brand new tires.

 

I understand since even with traction control a 6MT rear drive, can get nasty in rain or snow.
But AWD is way better in snow or rain period. Yes safer and twice the traction. Just some FYI to consider. Go test drive to see for yourself.

 

Thanks for the info. I wasn't asking about the financial options. I was interested in what the G37xS drivers thought about the car.

Brakes are slightly smaller because of the the AWD system.

Also. is the S version of the G37x worth it? if the brakes are smaller?

I have a 2010 G37X and the CT winter was no match for it. We had a brutal winter and I got through it just fine. I can't speak specifically to the Xs model but I can tell you I still have a lot of the fun with X and I can play around in the snow without worrying about dying. Before I had the X, I had a 400HP Z28 Camaro, 315s in the rear, talk about dead man walking. I love my X.

 

I have a 10 X coupe and last winter I was very happy with the performance
I wish I wait for the XS since comes with the big brakes sport seats and few other things
what IMO is worth it.

 

I'll answer with first habd experience. I own a 2011 G37xS coupe. It's the same as the G37S 6MT except for the AT and AWD. You'll have the same brakes, same sport seats, same lip/aero kit. I even did a rotor replacement (see sig) with Racing Brake stuff designed for the G37S and it fits perfectly.

I leased it in June so no snow yet.

Agree with what YetiTL said, I have the 2011 G37xS Coupe as well,
and its sport package is everything like the 6MT sport package.
Same brake size, seats, body style (other then the xS sitting high)
but for the winter, you want it to sit high to prevent the snow build up between your tire and fender

I'm thinking about getting coils for my xS in order to raise the height in winter, and lower it in the summer.

As far as snow driving goes, I haven't done any either, I just got mine in August! haha

However!!! I did something really dumb.. and will never happen again!
It was raining last Friday night, and I was switching on an onramp to get on the high way,
I looked to see if there was any merging traffic, and there was none,
and there were no cars in front of me.
So I decided to floor the car onto the high way in the rain, (was in 6th gear at the time i think...)
But being in 6th didn't really give me the torque I wanted to feel, So i decided to down shift into 5th (going 80mph at the time)
The moment I downshifted, my rear end broke loose, and I fishtailed 3 times, and really thought I was gonna die!!!!
Can you imagine flipping over, or hitting the cement median going at 80mph?!!?!! scary thought.

Anyhow, long story short, my car decides to take matters into her own hands,
I felt the front wheels working. AWD kicked in, as well as the traction control.
So after 3 fishtailing, it got it self straight! lol
As much as I was scared, I have confidence in my car! and I will never do something this stupid ever again! lol

 

^the awd is great with that too. ive had my rear end break lose suddenly on a few occasions but with awd + vdc working together it streightened out and i had clean pants afterword.
