If you're stretching yourself to buy a USED G37, perhaps you should reconsider.

There's quite the difference between not being able to afford, and not willing to spend. You seem to be the former...

As I've said before, you're better off spending more on a better car, than buying the cheapest one available to you.

 

As I understand the 5at vs 7at gear ratios in the lower gears don't really have as much significance as the higher highway speed gears. The 7AT gears mainly save on MPG in higher cruising gears. There is really no reason to get the 5AT "on purpose" if you can get the 7AT instead. Based on other threads and gear ratios the 7AT is actually more aggressive and accelerates slightly quicker than the 5AT:

i have the money to spend more, i just set a budget for myself at 25k. discipline.

 

Return on investment. Get better value per dollar, not the cheapest possible price.

 

Hehe i think we should agree to disagree, Mike. I certainly appreciate and respect your insights though but I'll maintain that a cheap car + warranty will suffice for myself.

I wouldn't toss away 25,000$ (Not including tax and fees) for a used messed up car...

 

I have this https://www.myg37.com/forums/buying-...how-i-did.html but have experience with the 7 speed with rentals and loaners. Gas mileage is better with the 7 speed but the 5 is smoother, more responsive (not a whole lot but enough), and quieter on the highway while accelerating. If you drive like a maniac like i do get the 7 speed because my mileage is horrible. If you drive more sane then get the 5 speed.

I'm willing to try this conversion once my warranty runs out and I find a good used 7at tranny for cheap... the stars shall align one day in order for me to achieve this!
