Oil Type?

Guys,

Please don't bash me. I read through several pages of the sticky regarding this, but didn't see what Infiniti actually uses and recommends. I read the owners manual section for this, and it didn't specify this either. I don't have a local Infiniti dealer near me, but the Nissan dealership where I just purchased my vehicle from says that they use Castrol 5W-30 conventional motor oil for the G37s. Is this a true statement? Comment/suggestions are welcome. Help a newbie out!!....LOL. Thanks guys!!

Every dealership can use whatever they like, there's no standard oil to be used do long as it's 5w30. Infiniti recommends Genuine Nissan ester oil but it is not required.

Any 5w30 oil will do the job good.

Thx Guys!! Will using a "non-ester" recommended oil void my remaining warranty?

Thx BB!!.....That's what I needed to know. I really appreciate it.

Another question, I have a whistling sound from the passenger windshield /door area(haven't rode in the passenger seat and tried to narrow it down yet), and a pronounced "rattle" in the same area when getting up to speed. The rattle doesn't happpen at lower speeds. I have read that this is a known issue. Is there a simple fix for it, or is there even a fix for it?

P.S.

The rattle only happens when going over bumps/irregular pavement.

I am bringing my own oil to the dealer to change, Castrol Edge or Mobile One. 5w30/synthetic only.

I had a door rattle. It turned out to be one if the retaining clips that holds the panel to the door was loose. I used a little bit of silicone caulk on the clip and around the hole, let it dry, it fit tightly - no more rattle. Dunno what your whistling is, you need to find it's true location and give a better description of the sound for folks to be able to advise.

BB ... do you have DIY on door panel removal? I have an EXTREMELY annoying rattle in the passenger door I need to investigate. Don't want to pull in the wrong places.

No photos but it's very easy. All you need is a small flat screwdriver and a ratchet, extension, and 10 mm socket.

Pull the interior door handle out and pry the plastic piece loose behind it using the screwdriver. Pry the door handle pull cap (aluminum trim piece) off using the screwdriver; there's a small notch on the front edge at the bottom to place the screwdriver. Both of these should pry right off easily. There are now 3 exposed bolt heads, use the ratchet and socket to remove them. Once they're out, the door trim panel is only held on by clips. They pull straight out. Pick a spot around the edge and pull it straight out. The clips will pop free. They can be damaged easily so don't stress if you break a couple. Once all the clips are free, detach the electrical harnesses by holding down the tab and pulling them loose. A pair of needle nosed pliers may help.
