New 2011 g37x coupe awd questions

hey guys just got my 2011 graphite shadow g37x coupe with premium package. came from an 06 manual 350z. Loooove the new car so much more refined then the z. anyways i did my searching on the forums and still have questions about the awd.

1. from a dead stop is the awd active meaning 75/25 r/f or does it only activate when it detects slip. ive read all over this forum some people saying its 100% rear until it detects slip and others saying it starts out at a 75/25 r/f

2. which kicks in first the awd or traction control/VDC?

3. If the car has this superior awd system how usefull is the traction control/VDC in terms of correcting vs the awd? to me it seems driving with the traction control off would be the best for day to day enjoyment of the car

4. I havnt gone to the track yet but i hear mixed answers of the performance of the x vs non-x. is their really a difference in performance? 0-60, 1/4, 40-60 etc.

5. last when driving and awd needs to kick in will it kick in for that second and then immediately switch back to rwd or is there a longer delay?

for those who are curious in my opinion of my z vs g here goes. Had my z for 2 years and was satisfied with it. it was sporty, fun and got alot of attention but the interior was a killer for me. rattled, squeaked, cheap material just couldn't justify the car. the handling was where it shined truly amazing handling noticeably better the the g37x but was most noticeable on the highway or at high speeds. in the city(nyc) it wasnt as noticeable. the g still had amazing turning but a little more body roll which really didnt bother me as im not racing on a track in the city. either way i still like the handling in the g and is more than enough for me. to me the g is an upgrade as i much rather the sport/luxury plus a back seat vs true sport but to each his own. now when it comes to power very similar. they both have that kind of dying out before redline with the g pulling more. its a little hard to compare since manual vs auto. i truly believe that in a straight line you feel the power better on an auto then manual which is why its kind of hard to compare the two. havnt test drove a rwd because they seem to be a rarity in nyc. overall in a straight drag the g will be a tad quicker but the z will dominate on the track. the weight is truly an important factor here as the 370 will destroy and rip to shreds my 350 but hey with more luxury and awd comes more weight. i pretty much summed it up but there's muuch more to explain but im getting tired of typing so if your curious just ask.

thanks and i hope people can look to this thread in the future for a solid reference of the awd info

From: Framingham Ma,
Well for one .Welcome.

The AWD system is very good, You see whem the first NYC snow hits, Great grip.. As far as when it kicks is,, When the rears start slipping the will start to throw power to the front( Depending how much skip there is) Handling can get a lot better.,., Drop it and get a sway and bushings. Power wise dont be surprsied if put in on some folks. The cars are very quick. Exhaust, intake and tune = 300W WHP and more mid randge ...
I suprised a coupe of S4's and a Triumph VR7 V8( 300 HP),an a M5.

0. Welcome aboard!

1. I believe Infiniti states that the car is virtually all (don't know the percentage) rwd until it recognizes that there's slippage and then the awd kicks in.

2. I think traction kicks in first. I've slipped in my X before and felt the traction control trying to get me back in place. Even if the awd kicks in first I wouldn't know. I can't feel it.

3. Don't know...

4. I would say so. Our Xs (stock) have smaller wheels, smaller tires, tiny tiny rear sway bar, smaller brakes. I think it weighs almost ~200lbs more than the S too. If you're worried about performance, why not just get the S to begin with? Or maybe even the XS if you wanted the awd? I know you said the S is a rarity in NY but I'm sure the dealer could have found one in the surrounding area. Or if not, order you one. Not sure about the 0-60, etc times and differences between the two. I would say at least the braking would be diminished as we don't have the bbk.

5. I've always wondered this too...

Welcome to the family! Here is a nice test of the 2009 G37x Coupe done by Motorweek. Your car is essentially indentical to the one they tested. The test includes 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Since you are new here, I thought you might enjoy it.

Congrats on the ride;

Back in September 2010, wife and I picked up G37X Coupe (2010 model). Although I desperately wanted G37S, I had no patience to wait for dealer to find one, plus wife cannot drive manual. In any event while I'd love to have the 19inch wheels, I am content with the 18inch ones. They don't look as nice but ride is comfortable, and after the NY snowy winter, I was thankful that I had the AWD. Ride was awesome, grip was solid, didn't get stock anywhere once. If i have had the patience I would have waited for 2011 knowing XS in coupe will come out. I guess bottom line there is pro's and con's to both X and or S models, but either or ride is awesome. Good Luck

So I installed my Hotchkis sways in my car recently and decided to do some spirited driving today to test out the awd . I turned off vdc and was pushing it hard around some corners but could not for the life of me get the rear to kick out. So maybe it's awd more often than I thought. On the bright side, there was pretty much no roll in the ride. I have Eibach springs and thought the ride quality suffered a little bit after installing them. However, after installing the sways, the ride seems improved not worsened like it should be. Maybe it's just me
