Faint rattle on cold startup
Faint rattle on cold startup
I was wondering if anybody has experienced the following:
When I start my car from a cold start, I hear a faint rattling noise that sounds like it comes from the front dash area when sitting inside the cabin. This noise is not audible from outside the car. It sounds very much like a rattle would sound if it were caused by a loose interior panel. Its frequency is probably 4 Hz. After the engine has been running for 30 seconds to a minute, it goes away.
I thought it might be valvetrain noise, but running the engine at 2500 rpm to build oil pressure does not eliminate the rattle, or change it in any way.
It is unlikely to be a cat-back exhaust leak, as I had the car up on a lift yesterday and inspected extensively for leaks.
The rattle does not change in relation to suspension geometry, i.e. turning.
The rattle does not happen again for the rest of the day, after the car has been initially warmed up. In fact, I only noticed it in the last month or so when it has gotten very cold (25 degrees) here in Texas, and this is the car's first winter. However, the rattle was also apparent yesterday, when it was 50 degrees out.
So I am officially stumped. Has anybody experienced this before, or have any idea what it might be? I've tried to be as specific as possible.

I hate to bring up a dead thread but I'm wondering if there was ever a solution? i'm at 150Km, and when I rev it a tiny bit and the oil pressure builds a bit, the noise is gone. Is this a symptom of valvetrain noise? I don't really want to pull my valves apart but I'd like to get to the bottom of this
