Intake and/or engine after market upgrades - Voided warranty?
Intake and/or engine after market upgrades - Voided warranty?
Hi all. I just truly bought my first car after previously leasing cars including a G37 automatic
I could not take auto anymore and had to go back to manual
. I also wanted to buy my car this time so I could mod. Sooo I did. I bought an 08 manual off lease with 25k miles on it. There is one "problem" however; I have an extended warranty (dealer gave me a great price). Long story short, I've done the little touch ups and upgrades externally and internally, tinted the windows, installed my stereo system, etc...but now its time to get serious.
1. I want the Stillen Gen 3 Long Tube Intake - does anyone know what this will void in my warranty or does it void the warranty entirely?
2. Does anyone have a shop in NJ that they know does nice work? You get what you pay for and with this nice of a car I want to pay once for someone to do it right.
Thanks in advance
(New to the forum. Will get some pictures and such up soon)

Ya for example, lets say I purchase some test pipes, and for some reason there messin with my motor, ill go and take them off and go back to stock then go to the dealer, so there so hassle, they wont know anything was messed with, and an ecu upgrade same thing, you can usually set it back to stock, cause they will def void the warranty. if you have any tune questions ask graphiteg37s hes better on that stuff
Ok great thanks. Don't really get the previous doggystyle reference / shout out but sounds like that person was calling you for help here? with a symbol? Like the batman light in the sky...
Stillen gen 3 long pipes seem to be the way to go for first intake upgrades for less than $1k. Anyone feel I could make a better first move?

Injen is good too if you don't want to see the filters through the grille. It's personal preference.
I flashed a bad tune once a couple months ago and my ECU got warrantied. Like he said, they have to prove it.

car companies don't like when you take the stuff out of cars that they put in for someone else's and since it changes the way your cars performs most of the time they try to attribute your mod to the problem. but like doggy said, if you have an issue, take the stuff out. simple things like the intake and the exhausts are fairly easy to return to stock. They'll have one hell of a time proving it if its not there.
also, depending on where you are in jersey and how far you are from long island, theres 2 great shops out here that ive gone too. Vinny Ten Racing in West Babylon and Performance Motorsports in St James/Smithtown. VTR installed my springs, gen 3's and my exhaust. Performance did my High Flow cats and my tune. Both awesome places!

The Infinit dealer by me in Alexandria, VA, will install all Stillen products on your car (aside from the supercharger kit). They told me that as long as you have the receipt that you purchased the product and had installed with them it wont void your warranty. I dont know if other infiniti dealers do that.
Thanks doggy, romulus, and poopdeck. Haha that was funny typing that out
I think I have enough here to feel at ease putting in an intake.
Romulus - that's pretty far and I would also have to drop the car off and have transportation back. I will keep this endorsement in my back pocket though should I not be able to find anyone in NJ

You can always print out a copy of the Magussen-Moss act. Generally, as long as your moss are bolt on, you are fine. If you add forced induction, flash your factory ECU, or mess with internal components, that's when your warranty can go out the window... with limitation. They can't, for instance, refuse to warranty a power window motor just because you put on a supercharger.
