I've been researching most of the cars you guys have been talking about. I strongly considered the bmw 335i and was turned off by how many fuel pumps a member went through which is a common problem know to bmw. As for fit and finish some of you guys had mention, lots of the bmw guys are complaining that bmw is skimping and now using leatherette (faux leather) for their interior. If you have the aluminum fit pieces in your bmw, then most likely dent those as well. There's quirks about every car and after reading some of this. I'm probably going to lean towards a corvette c6 which right now is on the same price range used as a g37 and 335i used. The guys wishing german, just be careful what you wish for.

I used to own a G35 and drove the **** out of it for 4 years and 70K miles and it never broke down on me one time. The biggest complaint I had was the rattles. I really like the look of the 3 series and was dead set on getting a 335i coupe. I began reading the BMW message boards and noticed quickly that there were may more posts asking for help in diagnosing or fixing problems. Compare that with the G board where everyone is talking about their mods and upgrades. What it came down to for me was that I'd rather spend my money on UPGRADES rather than UPKEEP, so I went with another Infiniti. I haven't regretted it yet.

As for my next car, it will be a truck or SUV of some sort because I need the room, but I'd definately recommend a G to anyone.

On Oct. 7th you said you would.
Have any recent problems?

I know a lot of people directly compare the 335 and the G37 which is totally understandable. My neighbor has a 335 and I see him drive by in it just about every day. From purely a looks standpoint, I think my G37s is light years ahead of his car in the styling department. The 335 just looks so flat and plain, no curves or real style at all IMHO. Now I do think the M3, with its more aggressive appearance, looks much better than a regular old 335, but it's also a $65-70k car before tax so it should be a major step ahead at that price point.

I just bought a used 08 with 23k miles. I wonder how many of you guys are experiencing this so called rattle. Knock on wood, but I don't notice anything. It feels solid and even on bumpy roads, it can soak up the bumps better than the previous car I was driving an 06 altima sedan.

Just some problems with my coilovers but that's not the reason. Don't get me wrong, I like the car and don't have any complaints about it. No doubt about that. I've just been putting alot of thought to it and have realized that I want a car I don't have to modify to really love.

Very true, but I bet there's still a lot out there who wants to modify it no matter what. It's not because the car is not perfect enough for them, they just want to "personalize" it to their own liking.

I can say that an M3 stock is enough for me but deep inside I know I will have the urge to mod the car to differentiate it from other M3's.

To each their own I guess.. just my humble opinion.

Couldn't agree more. I just can't say I LOVE the G without modding it. Not saying I wouldn't mod whatever next car I have, but I don't want to love it even if not modded.

German > American/Japanese

I had a mustang GT, Audi A4 quattro, and now the 08 g37s. No question the G's performance is better than my previous two cars but something about the german engineering makes the drive a lot smoother and overall it feels a lot safer. I would consider the G37x in the future especially if you live in snow filled areas (NJ here). But my next car is either the 3 series coupe or the A5. The overall build of the car just feels a lot better. The Mustang had the cheap feel inside while the G has a luxury feel mainly because of appearance but as for craftsmanship nothing beats a german car.

In conclusion....A5 or 328xi coupe

German > American/Japanese

Hi everybody, I just registered on here after doing some research and reading this thread. I have been looking into purchasing a pre-owned 08 G37S coupe, but this thread is kind of scaring me with hearing all the problems. I used to own a 2003 Nissan 350Z back in the day, and it was the most reliable car I ever owned. I was hoping that the G37 would be similar to that in reliability. I'm looking to trade in my 2003 BMW M3 because it is getting old, and has been costing a fortune to maintain at only 50k miles. I thought that the G37 would be a good alternative and cheap to own, but some people are painting a very different picture. Does anybody have any input as far as that goes?

+ 1 for the yes crew and -1 for everyone who said 335 over the G. The 335 engine deceleration problems are ACTUAL problems.

My reason for not re-buying is not in any way quality related. I only had one problem and that was water leakage. The '08's seem a little more problem prone, as a new model.
I have NO problem with the quality of Infiniti's or my local dealership. Just a little underwhelmed overall with the G experience.
Except when I drop the roof! That just NEVER gets old.

Shane D

PS: Five years with Infiniti (including M35X) and the reliability of the cars and the quality of the service has been OUTSTANDING.

I have been very pleased with my 08 G37S, which is my daily vehicle. I would buy one again - fun to drive and nothing comes close in terms of value. However, I plan to keep the one I have for several more years.

For a family car, we have a mini-van -- not much fun there but it is very comfortable and practical (Still, I don't drive it). I also have a 4wd SUV that helps with some of my other hobbies that require towing and off road use.

The G37S coupe fills a nice niche in the line up. I bought it because I got tired of driving the SUV on a daily basis, especially long highway trips when I was the only one in the car.

You will not enjoy the G37 as much after owning an M3. I can tell you that right now. Don't get me wrong, the G37 is an amazing car, but it's not an M3. If I were you, instead of spending another 30k on another car, just do the maintenance on you M, you'll be a lot better off. I know the valve adjustments on that car are a rip off, but regular maintenance, if done yourself, is not much more expensive than a G37.
