I have a question about my motor...

*EDIT 9/15/2010

I relize i may have more mileage, then some. 38,2xx.

After driving the car for awhile it sounds like the drive shaft is not greased anymore?

I have a video of the sound but its hard to hear it unless you have heard the noise before.

Its like a rubbing sound, Its hard to determine where the sound is coming from unless you have had this problem with your car.

I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this after driving the car for an extended period of time.

The sound is only there when the car is stopped, and after the car is warm.

*EDIT heres the video

You can hear the noise really good, what is it?

Its only after driving for an extended period of time.

It's hard to tell just from the video, but my first guess is that it sounds like lower engine noise(bearing/crankshaft/etc.). What kind of oil do you use and how longs it been since you changed it? Maybe it always makes the noise, you just can't tell when driving?

The oil is a little low but its not black. And it was making this noise from the first day I bought it.

Yes it does sound like lower engine noise, maybe the flywheel or Torque Converter. Possibly something spinning.

I have general mechanic knowledge, but I haven't heard this noise before from a Vehicle, So i was checking to see if anyone has heard it.

When you watch the video it sounds like a scrubbing noise, You can hear it right from the start, then it faints out when I move the camrea away from the back of the motor towards the front.

The only way I can get the dealership to take a look at it is if i drive it straight into service after driving the car for an extended period of time.

But its still under warrenty, and im just paying on the car till I can refinance then trade in after I get some more miles on it.

I don't bang on the car, but I do like to get it on every now and then, however, it just makes the noise after driving an extended period of time.

I want to get some more opinions before I do anything else.

Hopefully someone will have some knowledge about it. I don't really care, I don't plan to keep the car.

I will be trading it in, in 2 years, but I want it to last till then. Plus I have another 2 years on the warrenty anyways.

Thanks!

I contacted a seperate infiniti dealer about the issue. I will be bringing the car in on monday of next week, and will be following up on this thread and leaving up the video so if anyone hears the problem, or has a similar problem, will have some guideance.

Now, the motor consumed almost a quart in the last 500 miles.

I am thinking at this point it is the rear main seal, which is covered under warrenty. The dealership told me there is no Red Flags on the car, so that's good.

At this point i'm just concerned because I am not driving the car hard, and i believe it may still be consuming oil.

I have to check it again, after driving to work once I leave today to see whats going on.

I am running Pennzoil 5w-30 Fully Synthetic.

But, in the mean time, if anyone wants to chime in with any advice on this problem, feel free. Hopefully someone here has heard this noise before and can determine what the problem is so I have some headway with the dealer if they try to tag me.

I've had the car almost 600 miles, and another issue is the fuel consumption. So im not for sure what else is going on. However it is still better on gas then my old car, lol.

Thanks everyone, and I will update the thread as soon as I know something for future reference.

Right!

The car idles fine until I drive it for an extended period of time.

However, Today the car seemed to be making the noise, faintly.

I then turned off the A/C and it seemed to go away. Not for sure.

This problem only happens if I get on the car a bit, or do some 2nd and 3rd gear pulls. But its only to 6-7k, and then I let off.

The car may of been ragged out, raced, etc. It is a Florida car.

But anyways, ya it is abnormal, and I will find out exactly what it is sooner or later. I am hoping in the morning when I get to work, I will get on it on some backroads getting there, and maybe itll make the noise. I then hope to shut the A/C off, and the noise go away. I constantly run the A/C, so this could be something related cause I may also think the noise is there while driving, but exhaust drowns it out.

Oh well, I am not worried, I bought a used car cause of College Grad program, and was able to finance it on my own. That is all that matters. It has to last another 30k and is going back to dealer, or somewhere else, for something new that I know what happens and doesn't happen to it.

I've read a full forum post of horror stories about test drives on new cars.

To be honest this is the second car I have bought out of FL. And my GF's from Florida, Hahahah.

And there's some fine *** girls in FL.

Plus my state touches your state. So nope! I sure do not! hahahaha

UPDATE*

So yesterday I drove the car normally, checked the oil everything was fine.

Yesterday on the way home, I got on it a bit, did a few pulls. Played around, Etc.

Today, The oil is low.

What is going on here. I have no clue. Its still making the horrible noise. But I will be taking it to a seperate infiniti dealer come monday, and will be getting another loaner car, and driving that till I get my car back. Hopefully the problem is something simple, and they can get it straightened out. I am going to buy some more oil today, and fill it up, get it all situated, and take it easy over the weekend. Explain to the dealership the same problems I have explained here, and see whats going on.

It consumes oil when I play in it. Driving normally, it does not even drink a drop. Makes the horrible noise when I play in it. Faintly makes the noise when I do not play in it.

I am at a total lost, But 25,990 out the door, I really can't complain. 37,8xx on it now, so.

So the noise magically disappeared. I drove the car a long distance sunday to try to recreate it, did not work.

Now i have no leg to go on to try to bring the car in today.

Have to wait for symptoms again.

Odd, both are gone and oil is fine over long periods of driving, and some pulls.

I have 38,2xx miles on the car

The noise is back. Normal driving, about 25-30 minutes. It is so loud that I can hear it in the car. I can also hear it while driving, but its hard too.

Might be bringing the car in monday. Hopefully it persists so I have evidence.

It is also there when I rev the car.

Scrubbing noise of some sort. Coming from the motor itself I believe.

Its still under warrenty if they find a defect in the motor that caused it to blow? Maybe I have a loose bearing? Or the cylinder is dry?

If something major is wrong with the car, It wouldn't be intermitten, or come from the back of the motor?

Im only 23, they will believe i blew the car up. I probably have a major problem in this case.

I think ill take it to infiniti, hopefully it persists, cause this is all I have.

Im still in 30 day lemon law. Maybe I should just take it in and let them keep it for a few days and drive it. See what happens.

On an older nissan we had, the power steering pump pulley made it sound like a spun bearing.
