What do you think? G37s in the snow?
Hi Guys,
I have a gorgeous G37s and it's great on the California sun, but for work we may have to move to the Chicago area and as far as I've read, it's covered in snow for 3-4 months.
Now, the epic question, what do you think about rear wheel drive cars and snow? I don't want to get a Q50s AWD, i love my G37s and don't want to change it. Is it dangerous?
I've read that I should change the tires (only summer tires in California ^_^).
What do you guys think??

There's nothing wrong with RWD in winter conditions provided you have proper tires and good technique.
I'd suggest good snow tires, ideally mounted on dedicated wheels so your "good" wheels don't get ruined by the salt.

Snow Tires
+ Traction Control
+ Anti-lock Brakes
+ Limited Slip Diffential
+ Safe Driving
------------------------
= No Problem
Also, Chicago winters are unimpressive. Get some snow tires. Drive responsibly.

Stay in California, this area of the country sucks. The weather is horrible, the roads beat up cars, most people have horrible attitudes, and #1 you can't carry guns in Chicago. I'm 2 hours east of Chicago and we got over 100" of snow just 2 years ago.
Other than that, I agree with Selym's statement.

I live in PA. My first car was RWD, open diff, no ABS, no t/c. Most of the time i had on summer tires. When we got over a foot I'd throw on chains and pull out stuck SUVs
Most of it comes down to your skill at driving in the snow. Use a light touch. Throw a 50lb bag of rock salt on either side of the trunk and you'll be fine.
That being said, the X is like cheating

I just got my g37S (RWD) as well and I have to agree with Rochester, I will feel safe, as long as proper winter tires are equipped. All season tires, here in Canada at least, means pretty much 3 season rubbers.

All the nannies in the world won't help you climb uphill in the snow.

I am not sure if this is correct but I also was told not to add weight in the trunk. One of the guys at infiniti told me if you went it to a skid, then it would make it alot harder to correct the car. He basically said the added weighted wouldn't allow you to bring the car back under control. Anyone know if this is correct ??

Thank you guys!
Quick question, everybody talks about "good technique". Is there a magic technique on snow or just common sense? "don't go fast if there's snow" and that's it? If so, i wasn't thinking on racing in the middle of winter ^_^
Thanks again!
