how many miles can I do after the guage says "- - -" ??
the car says 25 miles left when there is one stick above E.
but on both occassions (can only has 500 mi) the 25 mi marker lasts only about 5-7 miles.
every time i drive a mile maybe 7 miles decreases via street driving. I dunno if this is a range based on hwy driving at 65mph so doing street driving at 35mph makes it decrease so fast or it's just something wrong with the sensor.
now it says "- - -" so how many miles do you guys think i can do? If the range guage is inaccurate what's the point of even having one? Maybe I can do another 20-30 mi on "- - -" city and 50-60 mi on "- - -" hwy assuming there is 1-2 gal reserve tank.

All car gauges are conservative, especially with the Distance Til Empty displays, because they don't want you to run out of gas. The DTE uses your avg. mpg to calculate the displayed distance. If you really want to test it, put a filled gas can in your car and drive it until it dies, noting how many miles you get after the ---

I never take any of my cars below 1/4 as the fuel pump can over heat if you are driving corners hard. Learned that lesson in my Z06. Gas stations are everywhere so no need to take it to fumes...

i know there is a 2 gallon fuel reserve........when does that kick in?
the amount of gas left after the car says -- is strictly based on.....like the rest of the fuel in your tank......your driving.......if you're going to floor it at every second...dont expect to get far.
but how much is left in there? well we will find out based on what someone says about my question. if the reserve kicks in at that point...then you know you have 2 gallons

from experience, i have figd out when the ---- comes on I have about 2.5 gals left, so if im getting 20mpg i got another 50 to go. Ill usually only push it another 30 at the most and then get gas.
Its easy to see where yours is at, as soon as the ---- comes on get gas, see how many gallons it takes and subtract it from 20, so if you take 17.5 gal it means you had 2.5 left.

I will confirm the 2 Gallon reserve. It is a 20-gallon tank. I fill it immediately after gas range indicates "-----" and it takes 18 gallons. My dash screen has always said 17.8 mpg. Therefore, maybe 30 miles +/- on reserve.

it down to almost empty... I usually fill it when the big bright box comes up on
the dash... I rarely wait for that, but that's just me... I've got a big bottle of
Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner and I usually squeeze a few ounces in every other
fill up or so. With the quality of fuel these days, its good to add this.

Because gas in Japan is so expensive, I have to look for bargains when I fill up. The closest cheap gas station is about 8km away and is nowhere near my usuall routes.
Yesterday I did an unplanned experiment with **** shown. Basically I had to do about 10k of city driving combined with 20km of highway driving for my after work costco run. Coscto is out of town, means cheap gas nearby. So here goes:
I started off with system indicating I had 40 something km to go, I drove around in city and by just when I got on the toll road to gun down my last 20k, the system went ****. I didn't know what to expect, so I was driving in the most economical mode, aircon set at low. very boring and tense, cuz running out of gas in the middle of Japanese highway is the last thing you want to do. As I was driving I saw exactly what it looks like as some dude was slowing down in the middle of a tunnel with his hazards on. So anyway, with no adventures, I finally got off the highway and found a gas station and filled up, it cost me 9700 Yen and guess what: it said 72 litters! I had about 50km to go after driving about 20 with **** on dash and Nav. So yeah, about 1/10th of tank space is reserved. Bottom line, when you hit **** you can still cruise around looking for cheaper gas.
