Fuel Door Not Opening

So today I pull up to the gas station and after walking up to the car and pressing the fuel door to open it I notice that it was stuck half way open. I couldn't get the door open but I could stick my finger in there.

I called the dealership and they asked me if I unlocked the doors which I did but still it wouldn't open. Finally, I pushed in the door all the way...locked the door...then unlocked the door and now it opened.

Now when I lock the doors and push the fuel door it still opens when it used to lock along with the rest of the car. Has anyone else had this issue?

LOL! I had the fuel door scare the first trip I went on. Was about 3 hours from home and sitting on a 1/4 tank when I stopped for gas. I couldn't convince the fuel door to open and I was freaking out something serious. I'd only fueled up a few times at that point so I went back to the driver's seat just to make sure there wasn't a button/lever for it and when I did I unlocked the doors. It didn't take me long to figure out why it magically started working again.

But no, to answer your question, it still won't open if the doors are locked. Did you like force it open while it was locked?

LOL, If I only had a dollar for every time this topic was brought up...

TIP: If the Key FOB is in your pocket at the pump, just hit the unlock twice and the fuel door will unlock. It's better to me than walking around to hit the door button.

I pressed it 4-5 times...what happened was that the door was latched on and the spring was stuck on open so it was locked in between. I tested it after I fixed it last night in the garage though thinking maybe if the car is locked and the key is in my pocket that I could open the fuel door so I removed my key a distance away and the door still opened.

This morning I go to the car...still opens while the car is locked but after I drove to work and locked the door...the fuel door locks like its supposed to. WEIRD!

Glad you worked it out. I had a similar issue like this on a different car. it was totally random and worked it self out somehow with me playing around with the locking mechanism.

Are you still under warranty? They should cover it!

The same thing happened to me in my G35 coupe a few years back. The dealer replaced the whole fuel door mechanism under warranty and it worked perfectly thereafter.
