In the market for a G37 Coupe

I currently own a Red 04 G35 Coupe 5EAT. I have really enjoyed the car and after looking at many other cars have decided that I should probably stick with the G series as it has been a great car. I am currently looking for a white G37 coupe 7eat w/sport pkg (and basically every other option). I have been talking to a few dealerships here in the Twin Cities and they all seem to be very short in there inventory. The one sales guy said that they have been producing less G37's and that I am probably best off building one.

I guess my first question is 09 or 10. I have read that the biggest change is the Navi however I would like a Navi that works well and is touch screen (not sure if every year is touchscreen).

The other thing is I was wondering if the paint on the exterior is better than the 04 G35's which seem to chip easy and also if the seats wear better.

I probably could wait it out a bit and hope for the new direct injection engine with more horsepower but who knows when that will be out......

Thanks

If you can find an 09, you will get a better deal on one. Biggest change in that year was the 7 speed tranny. 2010 recieved an interior refresh with different color gauges and higher resolution navi screen. Coming from an 04 G35, my opinion is that the paint is just as bad. But I have an 08 and in 09 they had that self-healing paint so I'm not sure how much of an improvement that was.

Agree with Callaway and I can comment on the 08 vs 09 paint since I've had both. The 09 Self-Healing paint is definitely an improvement. The self-healing aspect works okay for swirls but the paint is still just as brittle in terms of rock chips.

Well, the one local to me still has two 2009 sedans and two 2009 convertables listed on their webpage, I'd assume that's an indication that they want to sell them. I'd assume if I walked in today with an offer that they felt was reasonable I could buy it today.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but isn't allocation of cars to a dealership based in part on if they still have some of the previous years models left? If so, then that would be extra incentive to sell 2009's, it would be foolish for them to not sell them. If nothing else, a 2009 takes as much room up on the dealership lot or showroom floor as a 2010. Why not sell it so they can order in a 2010 instead? A car just sitting doesn't make them any money.

To come closer to answering the OP's questions: As others pointed out, there are minor changes to the interior cosmetics of the car, and a fair improvement to the navigation system, resolution being (I think) the largest change. One or two small options that were part of packages like the backup camera are now standard if I recall right also. As far as the paint, this is my first "G", but I have literally watched a scratch heal itself, I found one on my car a couple months ago so I decided to wait about a week to see if it would before I buffed it out, in about 4 days it did. This was with the temprature outside around freezing, in my garage about 55 degrees (insulated but not heated garage). It apparently works better in warmer tempratures too. As for rock chips, I honestly don't know, I've been very lucky and not had any. I do know that clear bras seem popular though.

3 weeks ago I purchased a 2009 sport. Got a screaming deal @ 2000 below invoice. If they have 2009's on the lot they will sell them and make great deals to make way for 2010.

I thought 2010 also has a USB connector. If you ask me thats a big improvement over 08 or 09, it lets you hook up virtually any electronics device now. Also as for navi, they are all touch screen but if I were you I would just get an android phone or an iphone I guess..... because the navi on the car is useless and if you want to update it via dealer its like $150. So if you want navi your better off getting a phone with google maps or waiting until google maps gets put into the car navi. I know its a nice feature because I specifically wanted navi, and I have it but I use it once every 5 months.

thanks for all the advice. I have a couple of the dealerships looking in their database for an white 09 coupe 7at with sport package. As you can imagine, I was pretty specific so I am rendering little results from them. So it looks like I may be having to order an 2010 to get exactly what I want.

For those of you that have a white G would you suggest a light interior or should I go with black. I have black in my red G but I have always been fond of a lighter interior in white cars. Just a little worried about the wear and tear on a lighter colored interior.
