Angry Stupid plastic bag...

So I was getting on the freeway a few days ago and there was this black plastic trash bag floating around. I couldn't avoid it so I ran over it. I looked in my rear view mirror and was hoping it would fly out from under my car, but it never did. By the time I got to my destination, I found a piece of the bag hanging on my left exhaust. When I pulled it off, some of it stuck to the bottom of the exhaust tip. I looked underneath my car and a good chunk also clung to my mid pipe. So now I have melted plastic on my exhaust system which I can't really access without finding a lift. It sucks since I smell melted plastic when stepping outside the car after a drive.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had something similar happen, and also what would you recommend I use to get the melted plastic off? At least I can do the exhaust tip for now. Thanks for any input.

Same exact thing happened to me before, except my bag was yellow, haha.

I think you can just pick if off, maybe clay bar or rubbing alcohol then polish it off with metal polish.

Why did you wait till you got to where you were going before checking? Anytime I go over anything and don't see it come out the back, I pull over as soon as I can

Happened to me as well. Its pretty much just a waiting game until all the plastic burns off.

As far as the exhaust tip, try and use a polishing compound. That would prob take it off.

Scotch brite pad and Acetone will get it off. Wear rubber gloves.

Happened to me in the past - took a few months (kid you not) for the smell to dissappear.

Let it burn off and clean the chrome tips of the exhaust with chrome polish.

I've never hit a plastic bag on a car, thankfully. Having said that, I once ran over of all things a matress just lying in the middle of the road. Two lane highway, shoulder was pretty narrow and the other lane too full of traffic for me to pass, all I could do is brake as much as I could and hit it. Actually didn't do any damage though. I guess it must have fell out of someone's pickup, some moron had it stacked on I'd assume without securing it, thinking it was heavy enough to not fall out. *shrug*

Since I was getting onto the freeway. I'm sure my pipes were nice and hot already by the time I ran the bag over, so I don't think pulling over would have made much of a difference. I still can't access my mid pipe without a floor jack anyway.

Oh well, it still stinks...
