Anyone use dynamat or any sound proofing material in the G?

I was wondering if anyone on here ever used dynamat or some other type of soundproofing material in the G or any other car in general? The reason I'm asking is cause I'm having it done this saturday by a shop that was recommended to me by my friend over at infiniti of manhattan.I was asking him about ways to make the ride even quieter than what it already is while I was also told that it improves the sound system quality cause it also isolates the bass in the car too. I was at the shop yesterday getting an estimate on it and they were working on a new 09 maxima and a few other cars. Very professional shop and the people too. From what I was told it can isolate road noise down by 3 to 6dbs.

I had some installed in my 03 F150 when I had 2 10" subs put in it. It wasnt for road noise though. It helped to keep the bass from rattling things on the outside of the truck and keep the bass in the car. It works pretty good and if you have it done do a majority of your car i can see it quiting things down inside quite a bit. Only down side is it adds quite a bit of weight.

Oh and FYI, even though your having a shop do the install, if you ever handle the stuff be VERY careful. I damn near cut one of my fingers off from the edge of the stuff when I was installing some in my boat. Once you cut the stuff in peices the edges are as sharp as razor blades.

Dynamat is used primarily to prevent panel rattling and isolate bass like you said. however it is also used to prevent road noise and reject some heat. ive done numerous installs with it from high end stereos. to hot rods on the floor/firewall, to semi trucks around exhaust stacks. it can be used for anything and always has great results. hope this helps

I did it to my 03 Eclipse (Spyder) and it Really cut down on the road noise (which is horrible in the Eclipse). It also really improved the sound of my system and the bass from my 2 10"s.

That seems like a big downside considering how heavy the cars already are...and IMO the road noise is the best I've encountered to this point. But there is always room for improvement!! Let us know how it turns out in the G

OH ok, that's not a lot of weight at all. I was thinking a significant amt. of weight being added.

Plus if you change out the exhaust for something like a Megan Racing or Greddy or whatnot then you can make up at least some of that weight.

OP, if you end up doing it let everyone know how it turns out!!

I'd like to see someone use 100 lbs!!! That is a LOT!

There are a whole bunch of links on the net that can teach you how to install sound dampening. The learning curve is not that steep. Just search for, "sound dampening install", "dynamat how to", and stuff like that. The trickiest part is removing the interior panels correctly.

Here's a link to get you started: Rick's Installation Guide

I've used at least a dozen different products and I like RAAMmat. The name brand Dynamat is for people with no budget. Way way over priced.

Here's a look at some sound dampening I did to my truck, Sound dampening

i like dynamat cuz thats the product my shop sells and i get it at cost ! in my last vehicle (06 ford explorer) i used a little over 3 dynamat bulk kits throughout the vehicle. each kit comes with 36 square feet. an all weekend project haha. good luck and like ivoid said, installing is easy. its removing the panels that can be tricky.

I did it on my 09 G37S. Added just over 100lbs of weight (102). But the difference is amazing! Only part that was tricky and I ended up not having it done was the roof liner because of the side curtain airbags.
