I would be very suprised if they totaled your car. Usually considered a totaled car if repairs cost more than half what the car is worth.

well in this case 37k market value, 13k repair, so your around 35%
who knows, i guess an AWD, moonlight white 09 wouldnt hurt, but then id have to come up with another downpayment and get raped with a 2.9 APR compared to the 0.9 on the 08

I would always fear some electrical gremlin may crop up down the road with a waterlogged car even if you get the new block. Obviously, you know that resale down the road will be an issue with a motor swap no matter how you sugar-coat it. People will run the other way when they read the CarFax report that says "motor replaced".

I doubt they're going to total it with 13k in damages, we'll see.

It may end up saying water damage on the CarFax. To me, that would be worse than motor warranty.

would there be a chance of mold in the carpets if no water entered the car?

You called insurance company for this claim, if in the future there are more problems that arise from this incident, you can always call back the insurance for supplements as long as your dealer can prove that it is related to this. Just relax, some problems cannot be seen immediately, like Mold, if it does develop, then call insurance and tell them that mold has developed in your car and Im pretty sure they'll take care of it.
