a few years ago in the flooded rain we had in NY and NJ we had 29 cars come in with flood damage and insurance just paid off most of the vehicles- - only 3 of them were able to be saved with new electrical systems and motors.

did you get GAP insurance? that is the discretion between you and your insurance company.

the water was up halfway above the door in some cars and you can smell the mildew building up. if you tried starting upt he car w/ all the water in the motor, it's most likely hydrolocked and totalled out -- you wouldn't want your car back after that b/c no one wants to be liable for any electrical shortages in the future w/ rust build up and just water into the lines

you should keep in mind for the future that when you are in a moving car, the water in front of the car is going to be a foot or so higher than what is at the side. the wake created by moving vehicle would be high enough to shove a ton of water into the front end of the car.

yeah im probably ****ed, well if my i owe 35,500 on it, market value is 37,500 (dealer). if they give me a similar number i guess ill just get an 09

pros - its an 09
cons, ill lose 3% points in interest since its not an 08, and my 5k downpayment on this car pretty much vanishes

GOOD LUCK, and stay out of the water crossings, no matter how shallow they look. Let us know what they find.
this sounds about right

demarco5, Don't be so negative and down about this. In your mind you already have this car totaled out guessing what your gonna get for it and buying a new one. You where only in 8 or 9 inchs of water, not enough to even enter the interior of the car and not high enough to enter the air filter area. RELAX dude. Ya you screwed up but don't get yourself all wound up as this could be something real simple.

Agree... Relax. You're working yourself up over what could be a very minor electrical short or something.

Wish we had answers but one can only guess until a pro is able to diagnose. Best of luck!

I did this a long time ago. We flatbedded the car home, let it dry out, changed the plugs, oil, and air filter. Waited a couple of days and it fired up, and never gave me a bit of trouble ever again. I never had the electrical issues and the air filter stopped most of the water but it was soaked. Good luck.

If the motor did hydrolock then they'll have to replace the whole motor and all you're out is your deductible. Insurance can not deny a claim since it was because of inclement weather. If you do have cold air or short ram intakes, I would take them off and switch it out to stock ASAP. Otherwise let it dry, change the plugs, wires, and oil.
