I did this relatively recently and while it it a definite pain in the butt to get to a few of the screws (particularly the inner most lower screw on the glove box) it's not what I'd call difficult. I don't recall any "beam" blocking my access door to the in cabin micro filter (08 G37 coupe). Can you post a photo of what it is you are talking about?

I had to take apart the glove box yesterday to install the interior accent lighting kit, and had no problem accessing the door to the micron filter. Not the easiest of jobs, but now that I know how to do it, I'll be changing that filter myself instead of paying and arm and a leg for the dealer to do it. No beam blocking my door either. Post pics!
