Rear ended - is it totaled?

My wife and I came to a stop at a red light and a young girl in a '89 Volvo ran into the back of our G. It was completely the girl's fault but the insurance adjuster hasn't seen the car yet. Just wondering, does anyone think it's totaled? See pic'sRear ended - is it totaled?-p1050013-t-medium-.jpg

i don't know if it looks like theres frame damage or not, you gotta check with a body shop. Did the airbags blow? If it does, its generally an indicator that its totaled.

sorry for your car, that must hurt! be sure to see a doctor as pain will eventually come in a day or two. but yeah, your car doesn't look totaled. be sure to ask the body shop to do a strip down estimate. my .02 cent

Man, that hurts to look at it. Yeah I would wait for the repair shop to evaluate the frame.

Take another look and see if there is any structure buckling, simplest way is to look at the rear quarter panels, then look at the door gap spacing. If you see any real differences, then you may have some structural damage....not good.

Good luck, just hurts to look at the car.

Highly doubt it's a total... Only because I've recently been through one and mine was close and I went head on into a tree with airbags deploying.

Damage doesn't look too bad. You'd be surprised.

Bummer. I've been rear-ended a few times in different cars worse than that and have never had one totaled yet. You will be back on the road in short order I will guess.

Thanks for all the replies. I can't see any buckling or extra gaps in the door areas so I don't know about frame damage. Hopefully I can have the shop look at it Monday. There is probably more than what I can see, especially if the force carried through the exhaust to the engine or drive shaft.

Although it can be repaired, my main concern is that the car will never truely be the same again. And of course the resale value now would be shot.

That's why you ask insurance company for diminished value!
