****! I almost Crashed (Wet Road)

Ok, I was driving yesterday to Central Market about 9pm, we got some rain (just a little bit, only enought to get the roads a bit wet) in San Antonio Tx, I always drive with my traction control OFF, I get off the freeway get to a light to make a left turn, engage 1st gear then 2nd (manual) and as I am exiting the turn (I had less that 1/3 of throttle driving normally) I spun the rear end and did almost a 180! What the hell is up with the roads here? Why are they so slippery??? Are our tires crap in the wet???

Im not used to this, I am originally from Mexico and man our roads are not a smooth but they are never slippery like that no matter what! I immediately turned on the Traction Control and I saw that even 1/3 of throttle will make it come on in the straights. How is possible that roads around here are like that? I'm surprised that people around here don't crash all the time their RWD cars specially if they are an older model without TC.

Cliffs: Shocked about the slippery roads here specially when a little wet, did a 180 unintentionally being extremely easy on the throttle.

Why do you always drive with the traction control off?

^ +1 Keep the TC on... No need to turn in it off...

The wet traction sucks on the Bridgestone RE050A's (IMO)... Crappy wet traction + TC off = Accident waiting to happen

I have no trouble in the wet with the stock high-performance summer tires. Maybe you hit some oil rising up through the pavement during a "fresh" rain.

The only time I turn off the assist is when I want to brown the pavement

The roads in the Mercado area of San Antonio are smoother because of the area and architecture of the surround buildings. It's only in that area. Most other parts of San Antonio don't have these types of roads.

Also, why is your traction control turned off???

you should always drive with traction control...unless you're doing a spirited run... there's a reason why they have it... if not then you're an accident waiting to happen...

You're asking for trouble if you drive with TC off.
