Believe it or not, if the M3 is more efficient than the Prius, then the G37 definitely is

I've crested 30 mpg before in my G. It is definitely possible.

Man here I was thinking I had it down. I was doing 28 mpg average everyday to work and thought that it couldn't get any higher. I guess I was wrong. It's nothing but coasting down hill after hill to work.

Nice job PureNick. I've hit 26.9mpg for a tank on the highway through Iowa doing the same thing - coasting in neutral down hills, and being gentle on the gas pedal for the uphills. With a little altitude change on your side (~ -1500ft overall?) and very prudent pedal usage (I tore like a bat out of hell from rest stops), I don't doubt this one bit.

Edit - are you following the break-in procedures fairly closely with your car? As in, are you one of the gentle-break-in club?

I run from OC to South County 3-4 times a week the hill factor has a significant impact. Going S. on the 5 max. MPG I can get is 28 going N. toward OC I've gotten 32.

What I want to know is "Pure Nick" how are you getting 22-25 in the city. My mileage in the city drops down into the 12-14 MPG range. All the stops just kill it.

Just installed my Injen CAI, I'm wondering how that will effect my mileage. I'll update everyone. It's harder to drive with restraint. The CAI power increase really gets noticable around 3000 RPM and ramps up going to 6000. There is a lot more power through the whole RPM range so getting to speed in the city happens faster without as much throttle input. The question - is there more power because the ECU is feeding more fuel to match the increase air flow or is most of the power coming from lower air temp and increased volume using the same amount of fuel?

Anyone with ideas let me know.

Not really gentle... but I'm not beating on it. I'm driving it normal actually... besides the Vegas trip, I've been doing a lot of city driving with various speeds which is how I've broken in all of my other cars.

That's my next venture... I haven't DONE it yet but that's what I'm shooting for. I'm about to fill up so I'll update everyone on my progress as time goes by.

Yeah, if you drive the car well and not like an adrenaline junky you can get good MPG. I went down from LA to San Diego and I drove 60-65mph, drafted behind trucks (at a respectable distance), and drove in top gear and I got near 40mpg.

I used to get 15mpg in town but once I learned how to drive economical I get about 22mpg in town. I keep my speed close to the limit and drive below 2,000 rpm most of the time.
