Vegas to Burbank, amazing MPG!

Hey guys,

I wanted to post my success story on high MPG in the G37. I have an 08 G37S 6MT...

I DID NOT follow any trucks or cars. I simply utilized cruise control at 70mph as much as possible and during downhill times, I took the car out of gear and let it coast the entire time. I must say, this car can f'in coast forever without downhill momentum. I coasted for nearly 11 miles going slightly downhill and the best part is, I was doing between 70-75 the entire time and the engine was sitting idle. I love it!

A/C was on. Windows up the entire time. Had my girlfriend in the car (115lb) + myself (210lb) two bags of luggage (50lb total).

At the end of the trip, exactly 1/2 tank remained.

-Nick

You are hereby crowned the MPG king!

I too have noticed that the G coasts forever when you throw it in neutral. Even if you're not on a downhill grade, it seems to get pretty far without losing much momentum.

I find it rather hard to believe you drove 280+ miles on 1/2 tank of gas on sloping terrain and average 32 mpg at 70mph. I have a hard time sustaining 24 mpg in flat SFL at 70. Have you found a way to defy the laws of physics. At least you're happy.

^^^ Hmmm... I think I'm with you on this one DGC... I drove to vegas and was at about 70 ish the whole time too and got about 22 mpg or so... Of course I occasionally hit 130+ mph but I don't thin that's what made me lose the potential 10 mpg... Maybe the pic was taken rite after he reset the trip meter thing... Mine does the same thing... It reads really high at first, then falls to what you are actually getting... If this is Legit tho then DAM.....

I wonder if he has tech package or not...

I also find it hard to believe seeing how the best I've had on the highway was about 25, but man, PROPS if you got over 32mpg. In your face Toyota, hahaha.

I've gotten 29 MPG over 200 miles but it wasn't in a mountainous area, only gentle hills for half the trip and my cruise was at 63. The costing thing is probably the key - it makes a huge difference in your mileage I've noticed. Also when driving without using CC, I tend to get worse mileage because the cruise computer is much more judicious with the throttle than I am when accelerating and seems to maintain speed up hills while getting better mileage than I can do it myself.

No, he doesn't have the Tech Package or at least if he does he's not using the ICC because it looks ddifferent on the screen.

I'm guessing 6MT as well because the gearing in 6th is a much better overdrive ratio than 5th in the AT is.

Half a tank = 10gal. 32mpg*10gal = 320miles. Wow, I guess it is possible. I think it's all the coasting that did it.
