What I had to do to get out of my car!!! *sigh*

So I was at the beach tonight and was about to get in to go home. As soon as I get in my car and push the button so the radio comes on. I got my seatbelt and then my car suddenly blacks out. I pushed my alarm...nothing..stepped on the brakes and pushed the start button...nothing. I opened my door and closed it again then I saw some signs of life. I was then able to start my car but something wasn't right.

As I was driving home, I realized that my dash light was put on low settings and my radio presets were messed up. No big deal I thought. Kind of weird but no big deal right?

So then I get home. I turn off my car and go out...and then my window comes down 3/4 of the way. WTH? So I tried to roll it back up but its unresponsive. The only way its responsive is when I turn on my car and close the door....but once I open the door (car on or off) the window rolls down again. Same thing happens for the passenger side window. WTF? What am I to do now? I can't leave my car like this where anyone can get into my car (no private garage). What is a guy to do?

I called Infiniti roadside assistance but their stupid answering machine doesn't register my cell phone keypads when I push the button after the prompt. So I sit in my car and ponder what to do. Then I turn around and realize the only way out is through that itty bitty trunk. Yes I had a SUBWOOFER there and lots of crap in my trunk. I had to get out..so I rolled up my windows and crawled out the damn trunk....yay! Solved! I was thrilled.....UNTIL I realized I work tomorrow morning and I have no other car to drive to work...*sigh*

ANY IDEAS WHATS GOING ON HERE? Maybe I can fix this tonight before the horror of crawling out of my trunk again.

Do a search...the answer to fix the window problem is on the site in a couple places. I believe you need to hold the both windows in the close position to reset them. It is also in your manual.

It happens, I believe, when the car losses power so it is not exactly a problem. This would happen if you disconnected your battery or if your battery died and you replaced it. It is a safety feature to save the glass and seal around the door area since the window seals when you close the door. Somehow the battery was disconnected for a time that caused this to happen which it sounds like the problem you had. There is a chance you just have a bad battery from the factory which is not a big deal and easy to replace or it could be a bad connection somewhere.

Yep. Power cycle from the battery causes the computer systems to go nuts. Take it to Infiniti in the morning, tell them what happened, get your loaner and let them deal with it. That's the service you pay for so get it in the morning. The windows roll down thing is a safety feature that can be reset as described above or in the manual. However, since it was the first time, something was up with your battery or alternator.

Either way, take it to the dealership in the morning and get your loaner!!!

I've had to do this a number of times and it typically happens when power is shut off or really low. Just reset them and you should be fine.
