Short Story. I am 99% positive my wheel got curbed by the dealership during a free wash. I can't prove they did it. I will have to fix it myself. Lesson: Inspect your car before and after you deliver it to ANYONE, to do ANYTHING and make sure you do it every time.

Long Story
Ok, so today I take my car to the dealership to get washed as I have done 2 to 3 times a week since I bought the car last month. When my car is returned I noticed the attendant has parked my drivers side wheel DANGEROUSLY close to a curb. I realized I have never inspected my car when I left the dealership after a wash, I just sort of assumed they would treat it like their own inventory. Deciding its a good idea to make sure my car leaves in the same condition I brought it, I walk around looking for scratches or dents or wheel damage. I get to my front passenger wheel and there it was sitting right at the top of the wheel glaring at me. A nasty rash of scars on the wheel lip. But there is a problem. Since this is the first time I inspect my car I can't say during which visit it happened. I can only say that without a shadow of a doubt it was not my doing and the only people to drive my car are me and the Service Attendants at the dealership. So I ask for the service manager and tell him what I've found. He tells me theres no way it could have been done by the attendant because there is only one curb that it could have been rubbed against and the car is currently parked 2 feet from it. He goes on to say he's very sorry for the damage and he can recommend a wheel repair guy I can call. Its obvious we are at a stalemate () which means, I will get bent over and have to pay for the repair myself.

why are you taking your car to the dealership for a wash in the first place?

 

We are under mandatory water restrictions. I don't really have a choice.

 

I specifically have them document that my wheels are not curbed or damaged and do a walkaround the car after any service is complete. I minimize trips there though. I do oil changes myself as well.

I make it a habit never to let anyone drive my car if at all possible. Why? See the guy who started this thread....

 

It makes me feel like an over zealous a-hole, but I have anybody I leave my car with check it themselves for any damage, especially the wheels. I've been in your situation once at a tire shop and since then I've had two new wheels purchased for me cause there's no denying it when it's in writing that there is NO existing damage...
One shop had to fork out over 900$ for one new wheel!!!

Any of you fine gentlemen know what a typical repair might cost for a typical wheel rash?

 

$100 or so

 

$145.00 while the car was in for warranty work. The dealer made $75.00 and the rim guy made $75.00.

 

You under manditory water restrictions but you still wash your car 2 to 3 times a week? Not too much of a restriction.

 

dang, you guys still are? the drought must still be serious then. sucks that the dealership curbed your wheels.

 

ya my dealer ship does a walk around and writes down anything on the car is that out of the norm. that way when i get the car back i check over everything. if anything is there i know it was their fault

 

I feel you man. I think my driver's side front wheel had curb rash and scratches on the face of wheel when I bought it! I was checking so thoroughly for dents that it didn't occur to me at all to look for wheel damage. Damn stretched front tires!
