elite extended warranty

I own my car 4 1/2 years and just decided to take out the Infiniti Elite extended warranty for the next 3Yrs/36,000 miles. The cost with Zero deductable is $1007 plus tax. I know after 4 years of ownership and 26,000 miles that things do break on our cars and most of them cost a minimum of $800+ to repair. I am super glad it was available to me and for $350 per year I feel like a hero!

I bought it at first, then got refunded a few weeks later. Decided it was, like most warranties, not worth the investment.

I would not buy an extended warranty when the car is new. It's better to buy it when you are closer to running out of the factory warranty. It is usually more cost effective that way, and by that time you will know if your car is vulnerable to issues as well as if you really want to keep it or not. Even though they claim the policy is prorated on cancellation.... it is built in for them to make money.

Acura's got a simpler motor, less technology and an overall more reliable manufacturer (Honda)

but yeah either way the extended warranty is unneccessary markup. im fine with just drivin her hard and fixin w/e falls apart within the normal warranty time

Agreed. However, the dealer usually gives a price incentive to buy the extended warranty on the spot rather than near the end of the original warranty, which MAY make it more cost-effective IF you run into some major problems after that period.

But like I said before, warranties are usually not worth the investment.

But according to CR, for every person that benefited, there are 4 that did not.

Well, since you already have a four year warranty from Infiniti, you are paying $1,300 to extend it for ONE additional year. What are the chances of having more than $1,300 in repairs during that fifth year? How much would you have to pay for those repairs if you put that $1,300 in a mutual fund for four years instead?

I think most people will run up against the mileage limit before the year comes into play...

true. although at my rate, with 3600 miles after six months of ownership, it'd take me 8.33 years to get to 60K haha.
