i-key replacement info and questions

so, i think i lost one of my i-keys over the weekend. i bought one off ebay (just the fob part, not the key that inserts into it) for $29 + $12 shipping. well, i call infiniti of annapolis this morning and find out that they sell the fob for $43 (list is around $75). the funny part is, when i inquired about the key part, they tell me it is sold separately for $46 (including cutting the key). the irritating part of it all is that they charge $100 for programming.

the question i have for anyone that may know is, can i program the fob myself? i know with my mercedes, all i had to do was insert the key into the doorlock, push the fob button and turn the key while in the doorlock. if anyone knows and is willing to share, i'd really appreciate it.

First, you gotta ask yourself whether or not you're okay with your key fob being in someone else's hands. If you somehow managed to reprogram the fob yourself, there would be three out there capable of starting your car (maybe the person who has it is some crook who loves a couple blocks away). If you go through the dealership, your other one becomes invalid for your car. Personally, I'd just bring both key fobs in and get them reprogrammed...it's worth the peace of mind.

I haven't heard of any DIY methods of doing it anyway.
