I took my car in for the first oil change.... on monday 2/11/08
I had seen a thread on this forum about the G surging forward when coming to a stop. I brought this up to the "Asst. Service Mgr." and he said he has heard of this before. I also gave him a copy of the TSB, which i was given from another forum member.

I took the car in on Monday at about 1pm. Service guy said it would take time, due to the test they had to put it through. I left it overnight....

On Tuesday 2/12/08, he said they still were not done, and they would need to keep it overnight again! He would contact me today, wednesday 2/13/08 @ 10:30am.

I just spoke to him, 12pm, 2/13/08, and he said they have a technician on site, and that he would not have a return time for my car until like 2pm today.

Should this take this long?

 

Did they give you a loaner?

 

No. Only because my option was to come back on tuesday, and get a loaner or leave it that day without a loaner. I already had set it up with a friend to pick me up.

 

I would be pissed since they have the TSB in hand and should be able to pinpoint the problem based on that. I would demand a loaner.

 

Let me get this straight...you brought your car in to get an oil change that shouldn't take longer than an hour, mentioned and brought a TSB about the G surging forward, and they decided to look into it which resulted in them keeping your car for a few days? Did your car exhibit symptoms as the TSB describes, or did you do this out of curiosity?

 

usually even over night they should provide u a loaner!

 

More than likely this happened to you because you took the car in on Saturday. On Saturdays most dealerships only do minor service repairs, like oil changes, etc. using a skeleton crew of mechanics. I'm just guessing, but doing the reprogramming probably needed one of their more "seasoned" mechanics to set it up properly. When it was done to my car, I was told it was a reprogramming of the ECM, not just a simple reset. Hang in there, the car runs much better after the reprogramming.

 

Too bad you didn't get a loaner, they usually fix your car ASAP when they've given you a loaner so they can get you in and out of there and get that loaner to someone else. Was it finished today?

 

I didn't take my car in on a saturday. I had taken it on Monday 2/11/08....
They had already worned me about their Saturday crew!

My car has been exhibiting the surging symptoms. That is why i took the TSB with me. I thought that would have made it easier, to avoid, wasted time on their part, diagnosing the problem.

He said he was going to call me at 2pm (Pacific) and its almost 3pm. I am gonna call him and get a loaner if its not fixed by today...

I can't imagine it would take more than 2 whole business days to fix this...

 

Which dealer/service center did you take it to? Please tell me it's not South Bay.

Although my G was purchased from South Bay (they took VPP)

 

whats tsb?

 

tell them to give you something to make up for having your car for a few days. should have given you a loaner...

 

Technical Service Bulletin. It basically tells the dealer how to fix the problem at hand. The bulletin I had explained the surging problem, and what needed to be reprogrammed.

This is specifically y I am confused as to y it is taking that long.

Maybe if I would have taken the loaner it would have been done faster. In the interest of getting the loaner back ASAP.:dunno:

 

yea I'd ask for a loaner. I remember reading on something from Infininti that if the service takes longer than X amount of hrs, you are entitled to have a loaner vehicle.
