I have the Sport Pkg and 19 in OE wheels, and am using Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires, 245/40-19 front and 255/40-19 rear. In Philadelphia the winters have enough snow that summer-only tires are impossible, but it's just not snowy enough to need pure snow tires.

I worked with a very accomodating and patient dealer (Alex Whitham, Winner Infiniti, Newark DE) who was very helpful in trying many combinations of wheels and tires with the 6 speed Sport Pkg and 19 in wheels. There are very few high performance A/S tire choices, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is essentially the only one. The 245/40-19 has the same sidewall height as the OE 225/45 front tire, thus there are no problems with speed sensors, ride height, etc. The dealer test fitted the 245/40-19 front tire, and verified that there are no clearance issues.

The rear wheels are 9 in vs. 8/5 in, so I went with the slightly wider rear tire, 255/40-19, to preserve a bit of the inherent understeer in the car, but more simply for cosmetics, to have a larger tire in the rear.

Like anecdoter/Steve reported so well, the tires perform beautifully in light to moderate snow. The recent 2 in snow in Philadelphia was no problem at all, drove over 50 miles with absolutely no issues (I used the same Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my old '04 G35C, and it performed beautifully through two Philadelphia winters plus a few dirves to upstate NY, never left me stranded, never a moment's worry).

Bottom line, from my own experiences, a good quality high performance all season tire is a great choice for most people who live in areas where there is some snow. They really don't give up much in performance in day to day street driving vs a pure summer-only performance tire. Plus, they offer superior traction in the wet, and on cold dry roads when summer compound tires get slippery. An A/S probably wouldn't be the best choice for Vermont or Maine or if you go skiiing in the back country, but for most driving, they have always worked fine for me (and are a lot more convenient than swapping sets of dedicated snow tires).

Nice write up! thanks for taking the time.

did you score these off tire rack? also, is this car a daily driver? And i agree, if you need pure snow tires for a G -you might be interested in the FX or G35x instead. this car isnt designed for that type of back country riding.

thanks

Reporting on my experience with my 2-225/45VR-19 + 2-245/40VR-19 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 swapped onto the stock rims on my G37S.
Well we've had a total of about 7 inches of snow earlier this week. I was able to easily drive out of my unploughed alley. Street driving was also very acceptable. Transitions from snow covered to clear pavement were handled nicely. I felt like my G37s with the 19” snows, handles better than my 04 G35with 17” snows (a much thinner tire, which is presumably better for driving through snow). This is most likely due to the increase in weight of the G37.
Happy Holidays!

dzine, yes, my car is my daily driver. And yes, I bought the Michelin's from Tire Rack.

I drove it over 120 miles today in light snow north of Philadelphia (Poconos area), maybe another inch on top of the 2-3" that fell earlier in the week. Once again, absolutely no problems, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S performed beautifully.
