G37 comments after 2 weeks of ownership

I have had my G37 Journey 5AT Premium + Nav for about 2 weeks now so I thought I would post some commentary I have on it thus far. I'll just skip right to the things that were a bit unexpected or a surprise to me, both positive or negative.

Positive:

Awesome growl from exhaust esp when you first start it up.
Very smooth and quiet ride even under heavy accelleration.
Torque really kicks in at above 4k RPMs.
Interior is really well thought out, sexy and comfortable.
Braking is very responsive, even on non sport model
Steering feel is nice and tight, turning radius is really good.
Sound system is crisp and clear with tons of input options.

Negative:
5AT, 3k RPM's at 70MPH? Its nice for quick power delivery but highway crusing feels like you need to put in more effort to keep the car at 70MPH. I think around 2k RPM is a natural place for a car to cruise at, and on this car that makes crusing speed at like 55-60MPH

Getting into the back seat is confusing, you have to pull the handle and push a button. Why not just integrate the switch into the handle?

MP3 playback on stereo shows only 10 or so characters of the filename (which means I usually can't tell what song is playing) It would be nice if it scrolled the name, or formatted the ID3 info somewhere (without hitting text) since there is still plenty of room on most of the status screens.

Possible bluetooth quality issues when used with phone. A few people have mentioned that they can't hear me that well on phone calls even with windows rolled up, fans on low, and of course no music playing. My friend with a 07 G35 sedan said he had similar issues and just uses a bluetooth head set when he drives. I'll have to test this more before I decide for sure.

Thats about it for now, overall the car is sexy as hell and is a ton of fun to drive... very happy with my purchase.

Agreed on the nice post.

One comment regarding the seats. I thought it was a stupid idea to have the lever and button, have have since changed my mind. Yes, when people are getting in the back you have to do a two step process, but when you just want to toss you gym bag in the back, all you have to do is pull on the lever and flip the seat forward. If every time you did this the seat started to motor forward at its slow pace, I think that would be much for frustrating. In my 350GT, I have never put anything in the back seats for exactly this reason, but when my new car arrives I can see me tossing things in the back rather than on the passenger seat. Just my 2 cents...

Oh, and congrats on getting your car, I have to wait until February.

I have had no problems at all with my bluetooth. I talk on the highway with my windows open at times and still have no problems. The mic is in the rear view mirrow so just make sure kind of project your voice in that direction if it's not working too well.

^^ Agreed. Must really depend on the phone. Mine works so good that no one can tell I'm even using the speakerphone, even while cruising at 70mph. FYI I have a year old SLVR.

While stopped, go into Settings / Comfort/Convenience. Find the phone outgoing volume (i forget what they call it). You can adjust this and it controls how loud your voice is sent out to the people that you call. Depending on your phone, the default may be too quiet or too loud (distorted). I recommend calling your voicemail at work or something and leaving yourself a message, or just call a friend and ask them to tell you how you sound as you play w/ the setting and pick the best sounding one.

^^ Absolutely MUST set this outgoing volume. I adjusted it with my wife on the other end until she could here me loud and clear. At one point she said it was TOO LOUD and I backed off one click and I have never had anyone else complain again. I use a MOTOKRZR.

I wish there was a setting so my wife could really listen to what I was saying. She physically hears me well enough, but actually listening to the words I am saying, well, that's another story.

For you owners, how long did it take you to go to the dealership n get all the things done n get the car off the lot?

Sluggish off the line? 5AT? 6MT? Oh wait, neither are sluggish. Compared to what is a G37 sluggish off the line? A corvette?

i wouldn't call it sluggish....deffinately not up to par from a dig compared to the S5, 335i, or even the IS350...but it shines at 5.5K up to 7.5K and it REALLY moves from a roll (for it's price category)...definately a good freeway car.
