Unhappy Help! No beep when doors locked by hand

I no longer get a confirmation beep when I lock the door manually by pushding the rubber door handle button. Also no beep when the top is finished opening or closing.

I tried the obvious fix of replacing the entry card buzzer with a used one and still no joy.

I fear I caused this problem myself when a while ago my wife how to use the dead fob battery slot. I stupidly didn't refer to the manual and I thought that you inserted the bare key into the slot rather than the entire fob. In a panic as I had to go somewhere I tried removing the key which was now stuck in the slot with a Vulcan death grip. Pliers got it out but not without visibly seeing the trim around the fob slot move outward a bit. So I may have either caused a cable to get disloged or worse!

Also sometime later I got my garage remodeled and tried pairinng the new garage door opener to my Homelink rear view mirror. I hadn't used the mirror in years. It now won't go into erase mode (indicated by a flashing red led) when the two outer buttons are held down for 30 seconds. However, the mirror is getting power as the green led is on when the car is running.

I have the full service manual but I can't find any wiring diagram or how to remove the driver lower dash trim, etc. I don't want to go to the dealer as they have joined the $1K service charge club.

Any advice, suggestions, ridicule welcomed.

Thanks,

Marc

Did you check any of the fuses? Specifically, check fuse #6- marked ELEC PARTS- BAT- in the left footwell fuse block (by your left foot). This fuse supplies power to the "beepers" as well as the keyport which, you admit, may be damaged.

The FSM has all the information you need for this car including electrics, diagrams, as well as "how-to's" on removing trim pieces and the like. Go to NICOClub, navigate to your specific car, and download all sections. I do not recall if section INT (Interior Trim) or IP (Instrument Panel) explains how to disassemble the interior trim but either/or will.

Check the fuse first and let us know the result. Then we'll go from there.

Bingo! It was fuse #6. However the big trick with replacing that fuse is getting to is as it is inside a fuse/switch body so that that circuit can easily be disabled for long term storage. Pulling that little white tower out involves getting it halfway up using your fingers and then getting some strong needle nose pliers to finish the job. Once I replaced that with just a plain 10A fuse it brought back the door/top/trunk beeper as well as the Homelink mirror garage door buttons and the analog clock.

Thanks again for all the help.

Glad it was a simple fix.
