Trunk misaligned
In other words the car was wrecked. You'll have to get in there and closely inspect the mechanism for any obvious signs of bending.
You will likely have to source any replacement parts from a junkyard (or eBay).
Does the roof operation still work?

It's misalinged because of damage to another area that threw off the trunk alignment.
In my experience of body work prior to anything else you need to observe the areas in question.
The latch, the hinges, crumpled creases, flaking paint.
Inspection: being that the car is white, look for shady bent or shifted hinges. Pay attention to the latch and striker to make sure these didnt shift. Check your hinges for flaking paint/bind/noise. Identify if there is additional damage
Fix: loosen all four fasteners to hold the trunk slightly. Close the trunk and see where it naturally closes. Depending on where it sits determine which side has a smaller gap. Insert plastic trim removal tools in the gap with the intention of pushing towards the opposite side.
If you loosen the fasteners just enough it should let you do this without loosing the position once you raise the trunk and tighten them then close and check for results. Do this until you find the position you want.
P.S. you might want to check the trunk rubber bumpers, if the trunk did move then the bumpers will try to provide pushback and might need to be adjusted as well.
Being that you are convertible it's extremely important that you confirm trunk closing action or else you'll have top issues.
Lastly a heavy wash once you're done to check for water intrusion.
Good luck!
