Q60 IPL Convertible Stolen

On early Halloween my car was stolen in front of my house. Theives were able to get into the car and start it while it was locked. These cars are becoming rare especially now since Infiniti is no longer making coupes with the focus on Nissan’s Z. I recommend owners here to get a faraday box for your keys, install a kill switch,or a club. My car was in mint almost new condition. Another G37 S convertible was stolen in my neighborhood about 15 minutes before mine. Police thought they were reading key fobs since they generate a signal. Never thought thieves would target these.

Where are you from? Sunday morning a white Q60 IPL pulled up next to mine and the passenger tried to steal my car. After about 4 minutes of them trying to pick the lock my alarm went off. Looked out and saw them but they left before the cops came.

Nope. Looks like it might have had the number 2 in there somewhere but it's hard to tell because of the angle. I have a steering wheel lock that I wish they saw before they broke my door lock. Lucky I can still lock and unlock the car with the fob and inside buttons. JBA Infiniti said they had about 20 cars come in in the past 2 months with damaged door locks. $850 parts and labor to fix but the lock is on national backorder. I found a locksmith shop that will do it for roughly $425. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/cxk4u...eext159wl&dl=0

As I read through this and a few other stolen G threads, it reminds of when i installed the "burnout mod" which puts a switch in line with the brake pedal input signal to the ECU. When I first installed it, I accidentally bumped the switch and quickly realized that the ECU needs that signal as part of the start logic. Without the signal, the car will not respond to the start command.

Anyway, there is a longish thread in the forum regarding how to install the mod along with a nice diagram on post #69.
Here is the thread link; https://www.myg37.com/forums/showthr...errerid=369648

The whole point of this post is to point out that installing this mod could pull double duty as a theft prevention device along with the oriiginal intent of doing nefarious things like illegal burnouts.

There are a few ways of doing this mod that could help improve the theft resistance of the vehicle.

One idea is to mount the switch in a hidden or inconspicuous spot. The other idea is harking back to the good old days by running a group of multiple switches wired such that only the proper combination of switch positions would complete the circuit.

Just finished adding a hidden kill to my clutch switch after reading these stolen posts. Thinking about adding another one to this too. Ridiculous how they can just take your car with a fob repeater or a key programmer. Also got a faraday box and wrapped my extra key in foil.
