Top made a thunk sound and stopped

It was upright still, made a thunk and stopped moving. The readout said Trunk Open. I looked around for obstructions and things and I didn't notice anything. I turned the car off and then back on, and was able to close the top. It closed up as expected. The flaps functioned normally both times.

I'm afraid to open it now. I checked the trunk. I found two small, matching plastic pieces. Trapezoids that look like they slip over metal.

Is this normal? Anyone know what to do?

Can you post a picture of the said pieces?
A lot of different things can make a thud so it's probably a good idea to connect a diagnostic tool to see what codes are being thrown. There is a good chance of damaging more parts if you continue operating the roof.

I will get pictures. I was in the trunk and I found a thing I think they could slide over, one on each side.

Where would I acquire such a diagnostic tool? It isn't currently showing any errors. I have one of the Bluetooth scanners but I'm guessing you mean like the consult thing people talk about but I don't know where to go for that.

Dang that ain't cheap. So it isn't really a, go to the dealership thing. I don't even have an infiniti dealership within 2-3 hours of driving anyway. Maybe a Nissan one. So I suppose I may just have to buy one of these and become a mechanic.

These pictures include the two pieces I found next to a penny for scale. One of the cords I see that has been completely severed. And lastly and the top right of a picture there's a piece that I think these two little plastic pieces I found might slide onto.

I wonder if it's one of the liner tethers. Check out this thread: https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-con...e-tethers.html

If you can get your car to a dealer, they should be able to at least high level diagnose it, since Consult works on a lot of nissan / infiniti models. Might be a good idea to call ahead and ask though.

The interesting thing is that there were two of them. They aren't hollow all the way through, they're only open on one side. So I don't think there's any way for it to function as a tether. I think it slides over metal probably to prevent it from damaging things. But for all I know it could have just been a couple of plastic pieces from something I put in the trunk a long time ago, but I think that they're part of the roof system.
