Whirring noise when trying to open top
Whirring noise when trying to open top
Having an issue when trying to open the top on my car. A month back, the top would get "stuck" when I would open it. It would stop about half way through the process but after turning the car off and on a few times, it would ultimately work. Now when I tried it, it opens the trunk but there's a whirring noise in the part where it should be unlatching and it won't. The only remedy is to turn the car off and restart it, but only to closie it. The car battery did just crap out on me and I replaced it so I'm wondering if it could be as simple as trying it again or if there is something more going on. The weather has been perfect lately so I do want to open it but I don't want it stuck again. Getting close to cold weather time so I might just leave it as is for next year but short of the "stealership", there's no one close that works on convertible tops in my area. Any suggestions on what could be the issue? I have a 2010 G37 convertible, 140K. Thanks!
did you check if your flaps deploy correctly? In many cases, a broken flap gear can result by getting the top stop and stuck while opening or closing.
on a 2010, flap will fall down and come loose when gear got worn.

Where are you located? This doesn't sound like a flap issue but could be the dead battery has caused a glitch in the closing sequence. Is the whirring in the left rear of the trunk? That is where the pump is located and is one of the problems I found when fixing my top.

The whirring noise is coming from the area above the windshield, like where the top should be unlatching. There are no noises coming from the trunk or elsewhere. It's just when I hold down the open button, the noise occurs after the trunk release but not from the trunk.
You'll need to use Consult to figure out what exactly is wrong with the top. If the top isn't unlatching but you are hearing noises it's possible the header lock is not functioning properly. With consult you can unlock those on their own to test.
