Trunk open warning during top opening cycle

The last three times i've tried opening my top the roof makes it all the way until the top is folded in the trunk and the parcel shelf is sticking straight up and the trunk is tilted back and then the "trunk open" light comes on and the top will not finish it's cycle until I kill the engine and restart it a couple of times. So far this has only happened when opening the top but closing it is fine. Any ideas what may be causing this?
Thanks

I had a similar problem. I found that the wiring of the top on the drivers side had gotten loose and rubbed through the covering of the harness and exposed some wires. Taped it up and haven't had a problem for 2 years now. Knock on wood.

Can you see the wires with the top up or do you have to retract the top to see them?

I had the same problem and it was a loose trunk latch. The one from the car body.
Is kind'a hard to get to.
Must remove all the trunk lower finisher and tighten the 2 bolts that hold the latch to the car body.
Do NOT overtight them!!!
Check the service manual for torque value on that screws if you whant to fix the problem by yourself.

I had the top partially open/closed. The wires are on the drivers side. I left the car running when I did this as others have reported that their tops would get stuck if stopped mid-cycle.

OMG!!! that luck's VERY BAD!!!
Check for any crushed wire there.Isolate and secure the wires in place so they don't get crushed again.

OK, I just got my car back from the Infiniti dealer. It turns out that I had several codes concerning voltage drop. They reset the convertible top and said everything is fine now. So we'll see. It cost me $143.

I had the same problem today, and worked through getting the top back down without calling the tow truck. I had become somewhat familiar with the operation while fixing a hydraulic pump and flap issues. What I discovered is that the Trunk status is tested late in the car startup process which was good to know in this situation. I found that by turning off the car and restarting I could immediately hit the top close button and get top top to move a good ways. A second cycle and the top closed and trunk closed. Saved my self a tow charge and for some a dealer visit.

Finally!

I was so excited to see a new post in this thread. I had gone through every latch and wire twice - but not behind that plastic cover.
Thank you! Great find!
