Darn winter is back.... time to take care of your top!

I live outside Chicago, and some snow is here, and up to 10 more on the way this weekend. I commute about 90 miles a day. These are some winter preps I have done....

I use a seal lube called "gumme pflege stift" Which is translated as Rubber Care Stick. Made in Germany and is commonly used by BMW for thier verts. It renews cleans and protects all rubber seals. I use it on ever seal we have. Be careful on opening the roof and stopping mid-way up or down. Leave engine running and apply to roof seals quickly. Stops the cold weather squeeks and seals out cold related leaks. Ebay and amazon

Snow tires work best.. blizzaks are amazing, make a staggard set and are now speed rated. Mud and snow, ok, and stock potenzas will get you killed on snow (trust me). I ride on General G-MAX 3's and they do really well on under 4 inches of snow. Great reviews on this tire out there.

I put two 80lb tubes of playground sand in the trunk, right over the rear axle area. This extra weight over the drive wheels works very well. It does sag the rear about an inch or so, but worth the adjustment to the headlights. You can use it for traction on the snow if you get stuck too.

Good coat of whatever wax you use to protect the paint from the salt and road spray. I use Klasse all-in-one cleaner and acrylic protection, and then Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze over that to form a barrier for the paint. They claim the glaze has a non-chip elastic finish which did work well for me last winter. Ebay and amazon too.

And I keep a full tank of gas, tow strap, extra winter clothing and boots, small military folding shovel, and a gun for whatever (I am a cop...) I know I could just park it and buy a beater, but my vert is NO garage queen! She will be rusty in years to come, I'm sure, then I'll get a new Q60! Good luck and travel safe my friends.

Im down in Joliet.... and I forgot to mention wheel spacers... my spacers are 1 inch rear and 3/4 fronts. And they throw a ton of salt up the sides of my baby, so I'm thinking of taking them off for the winter to keep the crud in the wheel wells...

I first used gumme pflege on my BMW Z3. Great stuff. I continue to use it on the G37. It helps eliminate the seals from squeaking on cold days.

I live in Calif. I honestly don't know how you guys in the cold climates deal with the snow, sleet, salt and driving on ice (not to rub it in, but it's 68 degrees and sunny today).

Had the whole thing lubed and derattled by the dealer. So far the Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires are managing in the snow, but I'm not pushing the envelope and only using it for light snow duty.

What did the dealer charge you to do the lubing and derattling? Im in Atl and while we don't have much snow it can get cold from time to time. especially lately.

The lubing and derattling was free under warranty. My factory warranty expires in Aug 2014, but I have a 2 year extended warranty past that.

West Lafayette, IN here. (Its nice to be the only G very owner here I haven't seen anybody else with one)I got it detailed and winter prepped in November. I only drive it when there is about an inch of shnow still on the road. More than that, I prefer leaving it in the garage. This winter has been brutal so far. Hopefully summer will be here soon and we all get to enjoy our rides!
