Car detailing and summer preparation

Hello fellas,
I plan on having my 2010 vert detailed but need some advice as to what else I need (or do not need) and should (or shouldn't) get done while getting my car ready.

So I have an appointment for Wednesday morning to get the car detailed. The following week I am driving from West Lafayette (IN) to Cleveland (OH). Is it okay to get the car detailed prior to this long drive so I can protect it from bugs and such and just get it washed after I come back? or should I wait until I get back and then get it detailed?

Secondly, as I currently don't have a garage at my place, I park my car outside (so exposed to sun, rain, UFOs, etc.), does anyone have any suggestions that I can tell the detail person to perform on the outside as well as the inside trim and leather to protect the baby?

I am a new owner since Jan, so suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.
R

Welcome to the vert club! Im guessing most of us on this forum like to do our own detailing, to me, my cars and my Harley are more than transportation, they are a hobby, a passion. All I can say is dont take it through a high pressure car wash as it may leak from the pressure on the roof seals. Bucket, micro fiber mitt, quality car wash followed by a good wax or polish. I use lexol products on my leather but you might opt for for a sun shield product like protectent 303. A good detailer will know what to do, but I challange you to make your new vert a hobby or passion like the rest of us.

Just detail it yourself. I never bring any of my cars to other detailers because I'm OCD about them cleaning my car...Just get all the right tools and youre better off doing it yourself

Here is a quick pic of my my V-Rod

As for car detailing, I am a fan of Zaino - it is a commitment but the results are amazing!

+1

detailed image is a great place to start. tons of good info. i am partial to chemical guys myself. get you some maxi suds or Mr Pink. follow that with jet seal and V7 or wax (50/50 is the **** IMHO). and for the wheels buy this for sure!!!! don't use microfiber to wash with, that's very bad.
use this use this

B, I have an '02 pearl white Road King Classic in which I've put on 42,000 miles and she is still going strong. On a nice summer day, I will opt for the Harley over my vert on my 90 mile round trip commute most of the time. Saving miles on the car, right? (Havent figured out how to post pics yet)

It all depends on the detailing you are going to have them do to your vert. If you are doing a two stage detail and trying to get the car paint perfect i would then add Opti-Coat Pro which is a ceramic clear coat. It will be a second "clear coat" that the company says is MUCH more resistant to scratches etc. It will also help keep your paint looking new for a long time AND you will NOT have to wax it!!

opti-coat might be a bit much for a detailing noob. not trying to offend, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it either.

I was recommended by advance auto parts to try Lucas Quick Mist spray wax as an alternative to Mequairs. This stuff is the bomb!! It has a gloss intensifier to make the red look wetter like it was freshly painted. It also causes the water to bead really well and keep new bugs and mud from sticking. I promise you won't be disappointed
