Since there are no threads on this (I checked LOLz).

I think all the pros outweigh the cons.

1.Easier to get into the backseat, just drop the top. Two cars in one.

2.you can haul stuff, in the backseat with the top down. or in the 13 cubic ft trunk with the top up.

3.Few of them on the road, always turns heads especially if modded. So more exclusive.

4. All chicks dig it. Side con is probably older ladies are the demographic that buys it more or has it bought for them.

What do you vert owners think? Why did you choose the vert over a coupe over a sedan, do all the pros outweigh the cons, do you care about the cons?


This thread is for "practical" reasons why it's better apart from styling/looks and the need to people/kids or grocery haul.

haha.+1 Although modding parts availability is limited (cons for coil overs which are pending and bumpers, trunk) this is a good plus.

 

I think the cons outweigh the pros:

• They often leak with the top up as reported on this forum a few times.
• Trunk space is lost with the top down.
• They cost more than a coupe.
• Like any convertible, they’re much too noisy at freeway speeds with the top down.
• Rollover protection does not exist if there’s an accident with the top down.
• For local driving with the top down you’re subject to a “gift” on your head from a flying bird (unless you’re wearing a hat).

But having said that, I once owned a convertible, and it was often fun to drive in certain conditions. And I always wore a hat.

 

The cons of a coupe are pros in the convertible

Not a single leak since 2009 in my vert.
• Trunk space is lost with the top down.
More space availabl in back seat with top down
• They cost more than a coupe.
offcourse as supply and demand is limited
• Like any convertible, they’re much too noisy at freeway speeds with the top down.
No at all with ear plugs or loud music from seat head rest speakers
• Rollover protection does not exist if there’s an accident with the top down.
Convertible has roll bars that pop up if....there's an accident.

that can happen while walking too...
Can breath fresh air and see the sky- not possible in a coupe:>!
Vert is fun to drive with top down or or up.- Choices available.. not in a coupe.

 

1. Only way you can get a G with all the goodies without a sunroof.
2. Love the look of the missing B-pillar.
3. Way more head room than a coupe. (good for tall drivers).
4. Obvious one is getting to drive with the top down or up.

 

Thanks for the feedback. There are inherent cons to a vert and a hardtop one at that, but I'm figuring people get verts for a reason apart from looks. So some of these reasons would be more advantageous to them personally over choosing a coupe or sedan.

e.g.
I've had a sedan, and a long time before that a an 83 celica coupe but always wanted a hardtop vert for dual convenience top up or down.

I do concede that there may be more cons, and some depend on your intended usage for the vehicle.
So tracking with the vert, not so much
Time attacks, definitely not
extra weight, comes with hard top territory.

But the smaller list of pros outweigh them if you don't need the car for certain things.

Retort? I didn’t think this was a love fest for convertible fans, where cons are unwelcome and need to be put down one by one. I’m sorry, I misread the rules.

 

1) the wider hips look SO much better. Not really a fan of the coupe.
2) Love that the back windows go down.
3) tail lights look better.
4) the thing about more space in the back seat is correct. I had to do a service call an hour out of town on a nice day (but not quite top down weather) and didn't want to take service truck. Drop the top, put huge tool box in back seat, put top back up and go!
5) Better head room for tall guys.
6) nicer stereo.
7) There are only a handful in Nova Scotia, so pretty rare.

I had been considering a G37X just because they were cheap, but the 'vert in the showroom won me over.

Retort is a strong word. It should have been response. I apologize Definitely cons can be pointed out. If there is a work around, is it still a con? Cons will depend on intended purpose also. I've even listed some.

Never considered the open air audio. I take that for granted. Goes both ways for serious audiophiles though. Not much of an upgrade path for those into sound. But I think it's more than adequate.

 

For me, I didnt even consider a coupe or sedan - I like the limited availability of the G Vert. My first car was a convertible and I still have it.

I am am big fan of driving vehicles that are a bit unique and ones that you dont typically see everyday so the G Vert filled the void...

 

Mine is actually really quite with the top up. It has noise canceling with the top up. Also With the top up it has more room in the trunk, and ifyhou need to carry really large objects. It fits in the rear seat with the top down (except when its raining)

Aftermarket parts is what sucks about the vert, but its SLOWly getting better.
Also not as many people have the vert to report mods or fixes as the coupe or sedan.

 

Going topless in a car I have never liked. I don't mind it in my Jeep with the bikini top on but being in direct sunlight is terrible. I never see vert people smiling when they have the top down but I smile every time I get behind the wheel, why is this? Everyone in the car just looks frazzled and baked. Maybe this is just a Vegas/NM thing though.


Oh and I should add if I want an open top I just open the sunroof, which I do often at night.

 

I don't think people cross shop convertible and the coupe or even the sedan.
Different cars for different crowd.
