how do i get a spare tire?
I had to deal with Infiniti roadside assistance... worst experience ever, i plan on having a chat with the manager my next service date. Car battery died (have no idea how). Took them 2 Hours to show up, the guy comes and i tell him the problem... he goes and has a smoke before he starts working on my car... unbelievable...
As long as you happen to have an empty rear space (sometimes jokingly referred to as a "trunk" for us vert owners), you should be able to fold down the divider that has all the warning stickers on it. When in the down position it lays nicely over the fabric cover that would usually hide the spare making a solid "floor" in the "trunk space".
I don't think the car will even let you drop the top in that mode (I've not actually tried it) but if you are just taking the flat to be fixed or swapped out, you've only lost the usable "trunk space" temporarily.
The tallest tires are the rears and we have over 12" of vertical "trunk space" with that divider down so... I "think" (again, I have not tried to push the tire into this space myself) we should be able to get one full size tire into the trunk space as long as we don't plan on dropping the top while carrying the tire there.
Has somebody ever tried to squeeze the full size tire into the back and failed to get it to fit???
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I am deciding if I want a spare or not. I have not bought the car I want but I know it does not have the spare. I can still perhaps negotiate this but I only have 3 days left.
It looks like a few of you guys have converted your cars for the spare but how easy is it to convert the space and then just leave the spare out except when traveling? I work and live in a metro area so I will not be out in the middle of nowhere unless we take the car on a weekend trip which will be seldom.
I like the idea of being able to fix my own flat and not worry about waiting on someone, either. If you use the fix-it flat crap your tire is also forever ruined even if it is repairable.
Decisions, decisions... I think I pretty much want a spare back there so I need to find the dealer with the best deal it seems...

Get a spare. You will have options that way. I would also take work gloves and a large garbage bag to hold the old tire or to protect the trunk carpet. I wish my car came with one, but I will be ordering one or ask the the sales people to keep a look out if some one wants to delete that option on the car.
I'll trade a fix a flat kit for the spare any day of the week...
You can make your own fix flat kit easy with a small compressor that plugs into your cig lighter ($20), some work gloves ($3), a can of fix flat stuff from any auto parts store ($10 - 20). and a small duffle bag to hold it all in. If you want to spend 2 dollars more, you can add some velcro to the duffle bag so it doesn't move around in the trunk.
If anyone in the Atlanta areas want to part with the spare tire kit, sell, or wants to trade for the fix a flat kit, just PM me.

What, no takers? I'll be ordering a spare tire kit in the near future. I thought I may pass the word around to local dealers that if someone wants to delete it from the car, I would be willing to buy it, but who would do that?
I just bought a 2010 G37S convertible and ran across this thread. So the convertibles don't ship with a spare? I will have to check mine. To clarify, the optional kit is simply the tire repair kit or a different/improved trunk partition that holds a space saver spare?
I guess as an alternative, you could buy the expensive run-flat Potenza's? I have driven on one of these that had a 3/4" hole in the side wall and was still able to drive home. In truth, it was my wife in my 03 G35. She didn't even realize it but I did the next day.

To spare or not to spare

Mike, The answer to your first ques is...YES the convertibles CAN 'ship with a spare'...IF they are ordered with the space-saver spare as an option at the time of build (I think it is a $180 option on the window sticker). NOT many of our G37 verts actually have this option, but mine does. The temporary use, small, space-saver spare is the ONLY type of spare tire used for this car, there is no full size spare avail at all.
Your second ques...'is the optional kit simply a tire repair kit'? Yes, that's exactly what it is. You get this kit IF you do not have the 'spare tire option'. ALL G37 trunks are identical...you EITHER have the space saver spare tire in the space 'below' the trunk floor OR you have the repair kit there and (as a bonus) some extra room in your trunk.
