First day with the Vert - Coming from EX35
Thought now was as good a time as any to post an "I'm new here" message. I traded in my 08 EX35 for a G37S w/tech today.
Thankfully, we had a mildly warm day today (14C), so was able to drive with the top down all day. At highway speeds, it did get a tad chilly, but putting up the wind screen made a noticeable difference. I think I'm going to really enjoy this convertible experience!
Here are some initial thoughts/observations after just 1 day of driving. I'm more of a tech guy than a car guy, so the tech and toys are where I focus much of my attention.
- Thus far, it seems a tad less powerful than I expected (or remembered from test drives). It certainly has more power than the EX, but so far, haven't really noticed much more power. Maybe I have just been gentle with it so far.
- That said, DS mode at higher RPMs is pretty fun, and it really likes to hold the high revs before shifting, seemingly more so than the EX.
- The updated nav/display system is a nice step up from what I was used to. Of course the graphics are nicer, and there is definitely a few more options in the menus.
- Switching tracks on an iphone appears to be slightly slower than the EX.
- At first when I was using my iphone via USB, I had skipping every couple of seconds. On a whim, I tried a different USB cable, and the issue went away.
- Bluetooth audio seems to work well, contrary to some threads I have read. No skipping or anything.
- Love how in D I can downshift via the paddles as I slow to a stop, and then not have to worry about upshifting when I accelerate. In the EX, using the stick/DS mode, I would often forget to upshift or revert to D, and end up reving in 1st for a moment before noticing.
- The new white gauges are a nice change. Especially the white LCD. I really disliked the gaudy (IMO) red LCD in the EX.
- In the EX, my right knee would often rest against the center console, and it was just after the soft touch surface stopped and the hard plastic began. It was ever so slightly uncomfortable. I was pleasantly surprised to notice that the soft touch surface goes much further down in the G.
- I kind of miss the entry/exit feature of the EX where the seat/wheel would move out of the way. Not a biggie, and perhaps I just haven't noticed where the feature is hidden to turn it on.
- Not having a way to enter a destination in NAV while driving with the top down is pretty silly.
- Got a few pictures to play from USB (but other pictures wouldn't display, thinking it wants pictures under a certain size). Had no luck with USB video clips.
- I'm going to really miss around view monitor. Especially given the lower height of the front bumper compared to what I was used to. Gotta be extra careful in the parking lots!
- The ability to voice dial someone from my phones address book without first entering a voice tag is nice.
- I notice in the arm rest storage bin, it appears to be made for a little storage tray that rests on top, but no tray came with the car. That tray was super handy in my EX. Was this an oversight in my car, or is there really no tray?
- The ICC cruise buttons on the steering wheel are placed just a little differently than the EX, which will take some getting used to.
- It was an odd sensation driving the car today... so much of it was similar to the EX that it didn't entirely seem like I got a new car. Of course, than I would look up, and oh yeah, no roof, definitely a new car!
I have seen one lexus vert on the roads around town, but haven't noticed any G verts yet. The lexus seemed to have a touch more power off the line in test drives, but I couldn't stand the look of the back end. On the other hand, love the rear end of my new car, more so than the other Gs... the narrower and wider tail lights just look sharp.
I also considered the SLK & Z4, but while they had their positive traits... lack of storage/seats ultimately led me to the G. Didn't like the looks of the 3 vert, so never really considered it (but did look at the price, and eek!). The A5/S5 were really the most promising alternatives, but the A5 seemed to lack too much performance, and the S5 was too much $$$. The exterior looks were good, AWD would have been nice (lots of snow here in Edmonton at times), and the interior was alright, but I liked the familiar interior of the G just a bit more.

Hi. Welcome. Nice comparison review there
You can program the second door button to move the seat back/wheel and the first for your primary driving settings. I miss not having it automatically done though. I think just the sedans/SUVs have that.

That is so simple, it just might work! I never would have thought of that. I will have to wait to see how often the wife drives the car. If it is as infrequent as I expect, than I will definitely use the 2nd memory button as an exit feature.
i hear ya on that. weather in edmonton is so unpredictable. my rule of thumb usually is if the temp gauge reads anything less then 15 degrees, the roof stays up. windscreen helps alot, one of the best purchases i belive, looks cool as well. i also use it as an excuse to not give some people rides like it was a fixed feature haha lol. first month i had it my friends gf puked in my backseat believe it or not. it was horrible. had to get it professionally cleaned, man did it stink. i love my black vert, ur right it does hide the lines and that was one of the reasons i chose it plus it has the self healing paint but ive yet to see that work. i seen a white one and the black rubber seals made the car look cheap. did u pick urs up in edmonton?

How have you found the black leather on our (few) really warm days? I really wish cooled seats were an option here (other than in the premium edition which trades off a few other features).
Dark red and dark blue were on my list, but silver was the only thing I could get without a factory order (one was already on the boat). Only had a month wait, so that wasn't bad.
Yep, got it at ericksen. How have you found them to deal with? On the service side, I had no complaints with the EX35. With that car, I was affected by a steering rack issue. I took it to them twice about it (once with an oil change, once specifically about the issue). They couldn't notice the problem (slight vibration turning hard right at slow speeds). It ended up being a TSB issue, which I had to bring to their attention (albeit, it was only a few days after it was announced, gotta love the internet). With that, they ordered some parts and fixed it up. Still, wish we had another dealership in town.

i like my black leather its not bad in the summer if u leave the roof up. plus the sun and elements could slowly deteriorate ur interior if not protected. wait till ur seats crease and bubble it will look like crap. my drivers seat covers were replaced but its happening again. dont wear jeans with buttons on the back pockets it will leave marks and dents on the seat that dont go away. it would be nice to have another dealer in edmonton but erickson is not so bad with the service there. oh yeah when i wash my car small drips of water come into the interior throgh the window seals in between the front and back window at the very top. tried geting it fixed like 5 times but it still trickles in a bit. fakin sucks on a 70 k car. gonna try to get the window ajusted again on the next oil change.
di du get any free add ons or accecories from infiniti? what was your total cost including tax if u dont mind me asking? i paid pretty much msrp, no deal and all they gave me was 3m bra. bought the extended warranty till 160000 k. and the smart program and tire warranty program which i kinda regret cuz it only coversr road hazards which are really rare in my opinion. kinda sucks how our cars have NO SPARE TIRE! just a repair kit that my dealer recommended me not to use and call roadside instead. lol what a joke!
My drive away price was just about $63k. Included in that was 3M (hood, side, mirror), mats and the wind blocker. I also got 18" blizzaks and rims written in for $1700 if I choose to get them come winter (which I will unless I can find cheaper elsewhere without much hassle).
The guy started with all the extended warranty stuff, I just told him to skip it.
The finance guy had a bunch of mistakes on the contract (me paying more than agreed upon) which I had to get him to adjust. I think he printed the contract 5 times to get it right... yesh. That was fun. Pays to pay attention.

I have washed the car a few times, no water leaking. However, the roof 'rattles' pretty noticeably when it is up. Gotta get it checked. It isn't even when I hit bumps or anything... I'll be driving along smooth and it'll make its noise. With the stereo on, you don't hear it, but with it off, it is very obvious.
Love the windbreaker, just wish it would stay up... when it snaps down it is a little surprising.

my wind deflector never comes down.. but glad to hear u have no water intrusions my friend. big headache. i paid just over 71 k with the extended warranty and smart program with wheel protection. came with 3m but no rubber mats or deflrctor. should have been more agressive. damn it. my sales guy gave me nothing cuz it was new and pretty much told me if i didn't buy it someone else will. even got financing at over 7%! even with the .9% promo at the time. they said the car was to new. paid msrp pretty much. had alot of small problems with the car that got dealt with. good luck with ur car.
