Anyone get a slight creek in the roof?

Hi guys, so I'm hearing a slight creek in the roof (new car). It's not bad and just a few clicks really when the road is rough. Totally expected but I'm wondering if others have it.

Only when driving on a bumpy dirt road. There will be some shakes on a hardtop.

Considering that roof is not sealed to the car, that should be expected.

Yeah I expected it just a touch disappointed. I remember the SC430 I got didn't do that. Or did it? Been so long. My wifes old SLK did that though. The Ferrari California does it but just a teeny bit. The soft tops I've had don't do it (obviously).

Mine is pretty quiet - the only time I'll hear something is if I hit a pothole at which point I'm usually far more worried about my rims than my roof.

I can get it to make sound if I'm in a touchless car wash with the air dryer going. There are a few spots where it will get quite loud.

I am going to try something around the rubber linings of where the roof meets the body, and where the rear windows meet the front. Ill keep you posted.

I think lubing the seals will prevent some squeaks. I've heard a few "tapping sounds" and looking under the fabric I found some plastic ***** that are probably the cause. I don't expect it to be silent but it shouldn't have too many sounds.

Are we talking about torsional rigidity here? All convertibles have a greater response to twist (lifting one front wheel) vs hard tops and it sounds like you might expect. The g37 is better than my 98 BMW e36 vert - which was better than a Saab 9-3 and a Sebring from past experience. Verts are miles better now than they were in the 90's - but still aren't as stiff as hardtops. You can add cross-braces to them to stiffen them up - but this is the performance tradeoff we accept with a convertible - that and the weight penalty. The sound I'm used to is closer to shifting your weight on a leather couch - not a mechanical rattling.

My previous car - an Audi A6 2.7T was very quiet - so quiet you could hear every little squeak. One weekend I went through it adding small strips of sorbothane (a noise and vibration dampening black rubber like material).

If I heard something like a metal part rattling in a can from the roof - I'd get the dealer involved.

Bloody hell - I went out at lunch today, turned off the radio and listened while driving down a fairly rough local road. All sorts of interesting *small* sounds to think about.

I had a Bose stereo in my Audi that I thought was pretty nice - a friend asked me if I had ever noticed that on a Bose "cymbals sound like shhh-shhh-shhh"? That's all I could hear from then on.

I also have the "creaking" sound and it is driving me nuts. Sometimes when I re-open and then re-close the top it goes away or at least minimizes to an acceptable level. I certainly never had this creaking problem with prior rag-tops, (Saab, MG) but they had many other types of noises.

I traded my 07 VW EOS for my 09 G37 vert. I notice just about the same creaking and squeaking in the G37 as in the EOS. I think I have the perfect solution! I have ordered the Megan Axel back Exhaust. Once installed with baffles removed all will be good.

RoBear Racing. MEGAN RACING EXHAUST: INFINITI G37 COUPE

I also have the KP technologies Navi bypass and the one touch top module installed. For a demo of the top module check this YouTube video.

YouTube - OneTouchG37VertModule.avi

The OneTouchG37VertModule is by far my favorite mod so far.
BTW: The vert in the video is mine.

Scallawag - did you install the KP Technologies mods yourself? I would love to add them but I'm not comfortable doing the install myself.

What did you think of the EOS? You gotta love putting a sunroof in a convertible.

In the video you can see the "bat wings" that fold out to make the tonneau cover for the stored hard top - I think the tapping sound comes from the "bat wings" bouncing around when the top is up.

I did the nav mod myself - although I have the KP technologies NI35 module I wired in a switch into the ashtray instead. It was very simple and works fine. Again, easier than you'd think although my wife kept telling me I'd ruin my car. Getting things apart is very simple on the g37. I think I'll get the one-touch module as that looks nice and I'll likely put the NI35 in my wife's EX. Is KP selling the one-touch's yet?

KP installed it because it was the first one touch roof module to go in a G37 vert. The sunroof in the EOS is ok but I almost always have the top down (I park in the Garage so don't have to put it up very often). The top mod is easier then the nav but both are fairly simple if you just take your time with the wiring. I agree with Peter that getting things apart is very simple. KP is selling the one touch for 49.95 by request. It's just not on their web site yet...

I agree with those wings making most of the noise back there.
