Hi All,
I just joined and wanted to say Hi!
I bought my G37S Convertible at the end of July and have racked 5500 kms (3300 miles) to date. My first oil change is scheduled for next week and I have a question for you:
I checked the oil regularly since taking posession of the car and the level has dropped to just above Low.
I called the Dealer to find out what kind of oil I should add, they recommended that I refrain from topping the level, as long as it stayed above the Low mark, since the car is due for an oil change next week.
That way, the Service guy said, they could see for themselves that the level is low and keep track in case there are warranty issues.
In any case he mentioned that they use Nissan Ester oil at the factory and just before delivery. After the first oil change, next week, I can use any 5-30 oil. Does that sound right to you guys?
I have the 6MT Sport model which, according to the write-ups, is slightly derated from the Coupe.
I would appreciate your advice.
Thanks
Dan

Welcome to the forum. Car looks great. Enjoy the open raod and the beautiful views from your convertible. I use full synthetic. I have always done that in all my cars. I have not noticed much oil consumption in either car.

Glad to see the drop top community expanding...
It actually sounds like your dealership is fairly competent and it is refreshing to see them taking a keen interest in your oil consumption. It is normal to burn a little oil during the break in period. As for the oil change, the best lubricant you can use in these unique engines is indeed the Ester oil. Sure it is more expensive but it is specially designed for the VVEL motor and some techs say it is actually mandatory...
All the best!

Thanks for the welcome, I can see this forum is going to be fun.
I did some more research on the oil. Apparently the Nissan Ester oil was specificaly designed for the VVEL engine due to the "Diamond-hard" valve coating, which required enhanced lubrication. The other driver for using Ester oil is that Nissan wanted the best engine performance (horsepower) as well as the best EPA rating. I think they've done an excellent job on both fronts. In Canada, we pay an additional tax if a new vehicle uses more than 13L/100K, this tax can go as high as $4000, so I for one applaud Infiniti and will gladly use their oil.

How did you find the black leather? Do they get too hot on a sunny day?
I went by Hyatt last weekend and they have the exact same model on lot. I almost sign there if it weren't the other guys beat me to it. Allocation is low. Looks like I'm getting mine in Spring.
Are you expecting to drive it thru Winter?

Hi Xtrema,
Congrats on getting the new car (it's going to be a long winter waiting
The black leather gets hot when the car is parked in the sun and I find, when driving on a hot sunny day with the roof retracted, that my back gets sweaty. I wish the cooled seat option had been available but unfortunately this option is not available in this model.
Regarding Winter driving: The G is our second vehicle (the other one is a Chevy Tahoe 4x4) and I will get Winter tires for it if only so that my wife can do some minimal running around in town. We live in Parkdale about 4 blocks from Crowchild which gets sanded immediately after any snow. I read in this forum that the G is not the greatest vehicle for Winter conditions so this Winter will be a learning opportunity

I have not put a deposit down yet. Ultimately, I want black with red interior and possible cooled seats. Premier in black and no wood would fit the bill. Wonder if they will mix it up for next year.
I'm debating to drive this year round or leave my FWD Altima as winter beater as I don't see a need of 2 cars. But I guess we'll see next spring.
